The All-New ‘RE-LAUNCHED’ Dobbernomics!

The unique fantasy hockey game is now on a brand new fast-loading platform. The epitome of the "buy low" and "sell high" concept, this passion project of mine has finally taken that big step forward.

If you haven't tried it yet – give it a whirl. It's free. You can go here and either start a league with your friends, or simply join the global league.

Originally a game in the late 90s run by Small World, which was later sold and run by RotoHog, this game was extremely popular and much beloved. It was huge for all the big sports – hockey, baseball, football and basketball. You would fill your roster with players under a salary cap, with the goal of getting the most points in your league (and around the world). But there is an additional element to this that you won't find in any other fantasy game: the value of the player you add will rise or fall based on his ownership worldwide! If you added Claude Giroux for $6.6M and so does a couple dozen other people, then tomorrow his value could be $6.68M! If he goes on a hot streak over the next couple of weeks and more teams add him, you could see his value top $7M! Your overall team value, which starts the season at $50M, rises accordingly – in this case it rises to $50.4M. That extra 0.4M is yours to spend on a better player. Drop (or "sell") Giroux at the $7M price point and just like that you can add a $7M player.

Play it right, and you could boost your overall team value up over $90M by March, which in turn allows you to spend on better, more expensive players.

But by the same token – Giroux could slump. Or get injured. Owners start dropping him like a hot potato. Within a few days, his original $6.6M value could slip to $6.4M. Now your team value is down to $49.8M. There is no other game like this.

So What Happened to RotoHog/Smallworld?

Well, from what I can gather, they tried to monetize the game by charging to play. It died a quick death after that. I won't make the same mistake. Playing will always be free. We plan to add some reporting tools and an ad-free offering that will be our only method of monetizing (other than ads).

The Rules

You can find the rules and FAQ page here, but I'll post the screen shots below.

The New Platform

If you tried this game two or three years ago and never went back, give it another try. The main frustration with the old platform was the load times. The new site? Instantaneous. Even flipping from page one to 10 when browsing through the players can be done as fast as you can tap the button. Setting lineups no longer requires that you carve out 15 minutes of your day.

For obvious reasons, we had to release this before the season begins. So right now, the frills are missing. The home page is plain. It needs a logo. There are plans to have a countdown clock and a 'Top 10 Players Added' box that should be there within a couple of weeks. But for now – go ahead and add your team, and pit yourself against me!

Dobbernomics – the most unique, fun concept you will see in fantasy hockey. Give it a try now!
