Ramblings: Habs Score Eight, Comrie Rebounds With Shutout, Matthews Fires 15 Shots (Mar 26)

A Carter Hart shutout during the fantasy playoffs? That's right. Hart stopped 29 shots in a 3-0 blanking of the Red Wings in one of many early games on Saturday. John Tortorella definitely doesn't believe in tanking, and that has shown in the Flyers' recent play. Hart has now won his last four starts, while the Flyers have won three in a row. We're not talking about wins over cupcake opponents either – Hart's wins prior to Saturday were against Buffalo, Florida, and Minnesota. Might as well start Hart.

As mentioned in The Journey, Tyson Foerster has six points over his last four games. His NHL career is off to a tremendous start, as he's scored seven points over his first eight games. But before you click that add button… as per Torts, Foerster is expected to be sent down to the AHL today (Sunday). So for now, he's a player to consider for your keeper team. He's only rostered in 19% of Fantrax leagues. Read up on his Dobber Prospects profile.

One more recently hot Flyer that wasn't mentioned in the Journey is Noah Cates, who picked up an assist on Foerster's goal on Saturday. Cates also has six points over his last four games while playing on a line with Owen Tippett and Joel Farabee. There are a few young players that are pushing for full-time roster spots in Philadelphia next season.

In a game where the Predators unveiled their Pekka Rinne statue, Juuse Saros allowed seven goals in a game for the first time in his career. The really bad start was Saros' first since mid-February. He has recorded nine quality starts since then, a major reason that Nashville is still hanging around in the playoff race despite being mainly a seller at the deadline.

While Roman Josi has been out of the lineup with an upper-body injury, Tyson Barrie's stock has improved. Barrie has five points over his last five games, including a goal and an assist. Surprisingly, none of those five points have come on the power play. Prior to that while Josi was healthy, Barrie had been held without a point in his previous five games. Barrie is one of those players that I have on my team in one head-to-head matchup but am facing in another one.

For the Kraken in their seven-goal explosion, Jared McCann scored his career-high 35th goal of the season, while Matty Beniers cracked the 50-point mark with a goal of his own.

Linus Ullmark has played in 44 games this season. He has won 36 of them, which leads the league. That includes stopping 26 of 27 shots to earn a matinee victory against Tampa Bay, one that I'll credit our picks and props writer Brad Hayward for recommending if you were quick enough to place your bet before 1 pm ET (or shortly after breakfast, where I live). The timeshare with Jeremy Swayman has hardly put a scratch – let alone a dent – in Ullmark's fantasy value. If he's not the top fantasy goalie this season, then I don't know who is.

Josh Morrissey left Saturday's game in the second period after taking a cross check to his face from Blake Lizotte, but he was able to return for the start of the third period. Lizotte was assessed a match penalty for his action.

The Jets continue to come up small during the fantasy playoffs. Morrissey and Mark Scheifele are each without a point over their last four games, while Blake Wheeler is without a point over his last six games. Wheeler at least tried by taking five shots on Saturday, but he hasn't scored a goal in (scrolls down) 20 games. That's over a month. If you need to add a Sunday streamer to push you over the hump for a win, Wheeler might be the guy to drop.

This is quite the stat for Eric Comrie, who picked up a 27-save shutout against the Islanders.

Comrie returned to the lineup on Saturday after being out with a lower-body injury shortly after his 10-goal debacle (though in fairness, he faced 49 shots in that game). This Sabres goaltending situation has the potential to become very confusing, if it already isn't. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Craig Anderson have been alternating starts for the past couple weeks, with the 41-year-old Anderson ideally a once-per-week starter. Now Comrie has returned to potentially create a three-headed monster. They've also signed Devon Levi, who they've pegged to stay with the big club for the rest of the season and not play in the AHL. Four goalies? The Sabres are a bottom-5 team in goals allowed (3.73 GA/GP), so this is one to avoid.

Bo Horvat is without a goal in his last 11 games and has just two assists over that span. Regression has hit him hard since he moved to Long Island.

In his second game as a Canuck, Filip Hronek was added to the first-unit power play beside Quinn Hughes. Rick Tocchet seems to be rotating first-unit power-play options beyond mainstays Hughes, Elias Pettersson, and J.T. Miller. Hronek recorded his first point as a Canuck (an even-strength assist) while logging over 26 minutes on Saturday, so he's definitely worth pickup if someone happened to drop him when he was injured. The Canucks are on a roll exactly when you thought they would be… once they were too far down the standings to make a real playoff push.

At age 38, Ryan Suter isn't really fantasy relevant anymore. That being said, he has seven points over his last nine games, including a goal on Saturday.

The goal was the 40th of the season for Jack Hughes, who continues to ascend up the scoring rankings. Hughes is one of six players with at least 300 shots. Another is new teammate Timo Meier, who made it past 300 after his five-shot game on Saturday.

Also, those candy cane Devils uniforms sure pop on high-definition television. More uniforms from the 1980s please.

Certified Band-Aid Boy Jakob Chychrun is out at least a couple weeks with lower-body injury. The guy who just traded for him last week in one of my leagues is definitely not happy about that.

Strange things happen during fantasy playoff week, such as the rebuilding and injury-riddled Montreal Canadiens scoring a touchdown with two-point conversion on Saturday. Rafael Harvey-Pinard led the charge with a hat trick. After bursting onto the scene following an AHL callup, Harvey-Pinard had cooled off with just three points in his previous 14 games, so you can't be blamed that much if he was on your bench for this one. It just stings.

Nick Suzuki scored a goal and added three assists, giving him multiple points in four consecutive games. Over those four games he has 10 points, really getting it done during crunch time for fantasy teams. Hopefully you didn't drop him when he was going through a rough patch in December (two points in a 10-game stretch).

After getting that nasty cut across his chin from an A.J. Greer crosscheck, Mike Hoffman returned with a vengeance on Saturday, scoring a goal and adding two assists. Hoffman obviously isn't the goal scorer he once was, but Habs fans have to be encouraged by that kind of motivation.

Three more assists for Mike Matheson, who has nine points over his last seven games and 28 points in 39 games. Matheson's icetime is up over five minutes per game from last season in Pittsburgh. In addition, he's receiving way more power-play time than he ever had with the Penguins or Panthers. Shows what a player can do with the right opportunity.

Auston Matthews scored two goals on Saturday. That's not usually super newsworthy, but the fact that he took 15 shots in the game is. I had to double-check that I was reading that correctly. This is not only a season high, but you'd have to go all the way back to 2006 for the last time a player took more shots.

Although Matthews is well behind Connor McDavid in the Rocket Richard race, he still has two goals in back-to-back games and 36 goals on the season. He is also on pace for his second 300-shot season in as many seasons.

Luke Schenn with the Canucks this season: 55 GP, 258 HITS, 4.7 HITS/GP, 17:11 TOI

Luke Schenn with the Leafs this season: 6 GP, 18 HITS, 3.0 HITS/GP, 12:01 TOI

The Leafs are overflowing with mouths to feed icetime to on the blueline, so look elsewhere if you need a plug-and-play for hits on Sunday. In addition, I wonder if Schenn will be a healthy scratch on the second game of back-to-backs for the Leafs. If you need hits, try fellow Leaf Noel Acciari or new Bruin Garnet Hathaway instead. Or at least check the pre-game lineup first.

With a goal on Saturday, Pavel Dorofeyev has five goals in his last seven games. Dorofeyev was the leading scorer of the Henderson Silver Knights last season with 52 points in 63 games, so the 22-year-old seems deserving of an NHL opportunity. He's fit in as a top-9 scorer on William Karlsson's line. He's an option in deeper leagues and may be worth watching in keeper formats (Dobber Prospects profile).

The Vegas Golden Knights have gone through goaltenders the way that Spinal Tap went through drummers, so it was welcome news that Laurent Brossoit was able to start for the first time in a month on Saturday in Edmonton, picking up a 4-3 overtime win. Both Logan Thompson and Adin Hill are still unavailable, and we already know Robin Lehner will miss the season, so for now it's a Brossoit – Jonathan Quick tandem. Anyone want to place a bet as to who will start Game 1 of the playoffs for VGK? Maybe it doesn't matter.

Since joining the Blues, Jakub Vrana has six goals and eight points in 10 games, including a goal on Saturday. Is this a player that normally shrewd GM Stevie Y let get away?

Brayden Schenn picked up two goals and an assist against the Ducks, giving him five points in his last three games and 11 points in the past eight games (over the previous two weeks). During that time, Sammy Blais has lined up with Schenn and has five goals and nine points over those eight games. Blais has also averaged nearly four hits per game since coming to the Blues, and he's another possible streamer if you need help with hits because he plays today (Sunday).

Troy Terry left Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury.

If Sunday is a critical day in your head-to-head fantasy playoff series, I wish you all the best. In the meantime, follow me on Twitter @Ian_Gooding for more fantasy hockey.
