Lining Up: Marchment’s Role in Columbus; Anaheim’s New Top Line; Malkin’s Potential Injury, and More

Happy Tuesday y'all! I can't believe we are already in the last week of January. One-twelfth of the calendar year is gone – unreal. We are only a week and a half away from the Olympic break as well, so double check that your league settings have your next matchup combined for when the NHL resumes at the end of February.
For the slate of games this week, we are not as lucky as we were last week. We only have three games on Wednesday, ONE (boooo, what else am I supposed to do) on Friday, and three on Sunday, which I just realized is another Stadium Series game (nice marketing efforts, NHL). Searching for teams we can take advantage of and possibly stream, only the Columbus Blue Jackets have multiple games on our light nights.
One player on the Blue Jackets that should be rostered for this week is Mason Marchment. Since his trade to Columbus, he has eight goals and 11 points in nine games played on a line with Kirill Marchenko and Adam Fantilli. The big winger is also averaging two shots a game and will contribute to hits and penalty minutes, if your league counts those. He has also been deployed on the top power-play unit at times since his arrival in Ohio, so he gets those extra opportunities to hit the scoresheet. Only rostered in 25% of Yahoo leagues, you can definitely fit him into your starting lineups on Wednesday and Friday.
On the defensive side for the Blue Jackets, youngin' Denton Mateychuk is back from injury and is only 8% owned on the Yahoo platform. Before he got hurt, he recorded nine points in his previous 11 contests, gaining some much-needed confidence for a young defender. The former first round pick is averaging over 20 minutes a night and over a shot and block per game. If you are looking for a filler on those two light nights, he is a guy to look at.

One winger that should be on more rosters is Mats Zuccarello from the Minnesota Wild. Where Kirill Kaprizov goes, so does Mats. In Zuccarello's last five games, he has nine points, with six of them coming on the man advantage. The 38-year-old has found new life playing alongside the talented Russian and as long as he keeps playing next to him, he may put off retirement for a few years. He is only 27% owned in Yahoo leagues and that number should go up as long as he stays on Minnesota's top line.

The Anaheim Ducks are going through a current stretch of injuries that is testing their depth and will of adversity. They have won seven out of their last eight games without players like Mason McTavish, Troy Terry, and Leo Carlsson. Their healthy forward group has taken it upon themselves to carry the team as a committee and the current line that is on a heater consists of Mikael Granlund, Alex Killorn, and Beckett Sennecke.
Granlund and Sennecke have five points in their last two games and Killorn has three in the same span. They are clicking as Anaheim's number one line and are on the team's top powerplay unit as well. The Ducks have a juicy matchup on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks and then play on Sunday, one of our light nights this week. The Finnish center is still available in 70% of Yahoo leagues while the Calder hopeful is available in 60% of Yahoo contests.

Reports online have said that Evgeni Malkin is okay after he sustained shoulder discomfort from what looked like a pat on the back on the bench against the Canucks. His teammate touched his shoulder, and you can see Malkin fall to the ground in pain. He missed 15 games earlier this season because of a shoulder injury and as someone who has had surgery on his rotator cuff and labrum, unexpected force to the area will hurt.
If things truly are okay for the former Conn Smythe winner, he, Tommy Novak, and Egor Chinakov have established some real chemistry. All three have points in their last three games. If Geno can stay healthy, I really like this line for the rest of the regular season because none of these skaters are going to the Olympics. They'll get to recharge the batteries, sip piña coladas, and relax for three weeks. When play resumes, guys like Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell will have some extra miles on their wheels coming home so Geno and the Gang (that is what I am naming this line) should come out and continue to contribute.
