Morning, all — and happy Opening Day! With baseball back and some great March Madness matchups on deck, it's a fantastic sports day. Even with all that going on, we've still got a loaded slate ahead. It's always nice when the ones you want to play jump right off the screen.
Slate Preview
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay is in the best spot of the night at home, facing a Seattle team that's a league‑worst 2‑7‑1 over its last 10 games. If you want to roll out an expensive three‑man stack of Nikita Kucherov ($9,700), Brandon Hagel ($7,700), and Darren Raddysh on the blue line at $6,200, I wouldn't blame you one bit. There are plenty of strong filler options to pair with Tampa Bay as well. You can stack Colorado's second line, the Blackhawks' top line, or even the Mikael Granlund line in Anaheim — all of them fit nicely alongside the Bolts. I could keep going, but you get the idea.
Washington Capitals
The Capitals come into tonight's game needing a win, and a matchup against Karel Vejmelka might be exactly what they were hoping for. Vejmelka has a -6.49 GSAA over the past month, and in nine March starts, he's allowed four or more goals in five of them. I'm comfortable with any of Washington's top two lines, and even their third line works as a viable depth option. In single‑entry builds they're probably just outside my core, but if I'm running multiple lineups, I'd absolutely want some exposure to the Caps.
New Jersey Devils
I haven't had much interest in rostering the Devils this season, but tonight might be the exception — and it's the power play that's pulling me in. Over the past two weeks, New Jersey's PP ranks second in high‑danger chances, and they've converted that pressure into six goals in that span. I'm not targeting the top line, but the second line of Jack Hughes ($8,900), Jesper Bratt ($5,400), and Connor Brown ($3,900) is fully correlated on the top PP unit, which makes them a strong stacking option. The price of Brown helps bring this stack down as well, so you'll have some nice lineup flexibility there. They are facing a Nashville Predators team that doesn't take a ton of penalties — roughly middle of the league — but on a large slate, this Devils power play could easily slip under the radar.
Defense
At the top of my board is Evan Bouchard at $7,500 — he's essentially giving you three shots on goal and a point every night right now. Matthew Schaefer logged half an hour of ice time against the Chicago Blackhawks, and if there's even a chance he approaches that again, I'm interested at $6,700. We already covered Darren Raddysh, but I'm also very into Jakob Chychrun at $6,100. Utah struggled to contain shots from the blue line in their last outing against Edmonton, so Chychrun has a real path to similar success. John Carlson ($5,100) draws a great matchup against the Calgary Flames, and I don't mind his teammate Jacob Trouba ($4,500) either. If you need a true value play, Tyler Kleven ($2,900) could see a strong workload for the Ottawa Senators against the Pittsburgh Penguins, making him a solid salary‑saving option.
Goalies
$8,500 is a hefty price tag for Andrei Vasilevskiy, but if you have the salary, he's an outstanding play tonight. For me, though, the most expensive goaltender I'm prioritizing is Joel Hofer at $7,800. He's quietly been one of the league's best since returning from the Olympic break and should see solid volume against the San Jose Sharks. If Jakub Dobeš gets the start for Montreal, I like him at $7,400. But maybe even more intriguing is Logan Thompson at $7,200, who offers strong upside at a slightly cheaper price point.
That's it for now, best of luck tonight!
