Many fantasy pools have their playoffs the last few weeks of the regular season. Over the next few weeks I would like to address the 'playoff' schedule a few times. I want the analysis to be tailored to your rules, your formats, yours teams and your concerns so please post your playoff schedule questions in the 'Article Feedback' forum.
The first question is from metaldude26 and the dude was asking if going into the final four weeks of the season going with Loungo and Miller is a good bet given the team's final schedule. The answer is they should provide a great duo as Vancouver has one of the strongest schedules with 14 games in the final four weeks and Buffalo is in the middle of the pack with 13 games. In terms of goalie starts both teams only have one set of back-to-back games. If you did want to pick up a third goalie the Flames (good luck) would be your best bet for minimizing conflicts as Vancouver, Buffalo and Calgary only play on the same night once in those final four weeks. Minnesota, St. Louis and Nashville conflict only twice with Buffalo and Vancouver so they are also a good bet for getting the most games out of three goalies with two roster spots.
Second question is from kytmagic who is looking at a first round bye but is concerned about the third to last week of the season (March 23 to March 29) and wants to know which team's schedules are looking strong that week. Twelve teams play four games that week and taking into account their opponents the best of the group are Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Panthers, Canucks or Ducks. On the other end definitely worry if you are relying too heavily on players from the Capitals, Bruins, Penguins or Coyotes to carry you through the round as they only play two games.
Looking at a team's schedule may help your chances of finding a good injury replacement. Here are some of the high and low ratings for teams over a two, three and four week period starting January 23, 2009. The rating is shown in brackets.
Two weeks
High ratings: Bruins (5.79), Senators (5.77), Panthers (5.64)
Low ratings: Kings (3.70), Canucks (2.94)
Three weeks
High ratings: Red Wings (9.36), Predators (9.07), Canadiens (9.05), Lightning (9.02)
Low ratings: Capitals (6.57), Blackhawks (6.46), Canucks (5.98)
Four weeks
High ratings: Blue Jackets (13.22), Predators (13.17)
Low ratings: Ducks (9.81), Capitals (9.51)
