The New York Islanders have signed goaltender Martin Biron to a one-year deal worth $1.4 million.
Fantasy Impact: Biron is probably kicking himself because he could have signed for that in Philadelphia, perhaps a little more and at a longer term. But it’s a buyer’s market for goalies and he wants a job. Onto the signing itself – the team already has Dwayne Roloson under contract and they maintain that Rick DiPietro will resume skating next month. After seeing this signing, do you really believe that? Chris Botta, an insider for the Islanders who pens “IslandersPointBlank.com” believes that we won’t be seeing DiPietro on the ice this summer and he indicates that DiPietro won’t be starting the season for the team.
Given Biron’s small contract, he is a very tradable commodity in the event that things work out for RDP, so it was a great move for the team to hedge their bets. As for who will get how many wins, I think Roloson will get between 12-17, Biron will get 14-19, and RDP will earn about 3-9. It’s one of the more difficult teams now to prognosticate between the pipes.
