Cheap Players for Daily Fantasy Hockey – November 5, 2016

Looking at some of the best options for Saturday's Daily Fantasy Hockey slate.

Top Budget Plays

Centers

Radek Faksa $3500 – The center is truly a value on Saturday just because of his price. He is slowly gaining his health back which seems like a theme for many players from Dallas these days. Centering the second line with Jason Spezza cannot hurt his hopes for achieving value on Saturday. Playing Chicago cannot hurt either.

Wingers

Brian Gionta $3700 – There is just a theme here that the risks must get higher. Gionta is in his late 30’s and has six points in ten games. The big thing is he played over 18 minutes again on Thursday night and will see that kind of ice time for the foreseeable future. The winger can find opportunities where most can not. For that alone, he is worth taking a chance on in a GPP.

Defensemen

Radko Gudas $3400 – Early on, taking risks in moderation is paramount in DFS hockey. Gudas is a huge one because of his penchant for questionable hits. However, he plays physical, blocks shots, and generates opportunities when he is on a streak. The defenseman is on a modest one now and though Montreal has Carey Price, Philadelphia may be the one team that can post more than a goal or two on the goaltender. Guys like Gudas are part of the reason why.

Goalie

Mike Condon $7700 – Condon gets traded to Ottawa after a stint in Pittsburgh and naturally posts a shutout. Yes, it was against the Vancouver Canucks, who average less than two goals per game, but still a shutout. Buffalo has had issues scoring particularly on the road and though Ottawa has its defensive shortcomings, Condon is at least worth a play in GPP’s until his price creeps up more. If he does not start, one can always try Andrew Hammond

Since we saved some money on the budget plays let’s look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.

Centers

Tyler Seguin $7600 – Seguin is going to be a heavy cash play on Saturday as Dallas starts a home and home with the Chicago Blackhawks. Last year, Dallas fared pretty well against them but more importantly every game was high event hockey. The center had four assists on Thursday against St. Louis. With Jamie Benn by his side, they are going to be problems for a Chicago defense that is still giving up shots like a faucet gushing all over the place.

Wingers

Brad Marchand $6800 – Though Marchand has cooled considerably off his torrid hot start. The fact that David Pastrnak came back on Thursday is definitely a big boost. The Bruins are also facing the Rangers in Boston where they usually have some success. Marchand is a pest extraordinaire and could be a fun play if Henrik Lundqvist indeed starts. This is highly risky on such a spread out slate for both GPP and cash lineups. If it pays off though, look out!

Defenseman

Kris Letang $6600 – So, Kris Letang got healthy after missing five games and had multiple point efforts in his first two games back. Pittsburgh has had a lot of success against San Jose in the last year. Letang is a big reason why as he stretches defenses as good as anyone. The Sharks do not really have a player that can shadow him effectively either and their penalty kill is suspect. Letang is an elite power play quarterback. This could be a play that delivers the late hammer.

Goalie

Tuukka Rask $7500 – The choices out there may appear to be better but Rask won a game on Thursday by all rights that he should not have. Give the goaltender credit! He persevered through ten rounds of a shootout against Tampa Bay in order to come out with the win. If he starts, Boston will likely be a slight favorite over a Rangers team that generates tons of chances and shots. Rask is used to the pressure and has had a start this year that was a complete opposite of last season. He actually could be used for either cash or GPP again because of how spread out the Saturday slate is. Price can be used from Montreal if you can spring for him since Rask’s price unexpectedly went soft.
