Tuesday Game Picks: Tkachuk Keeps Shooting, Vegas Keeps Rolling, and the Stars Keep Scoring

We are back with another Tuesday edition of Game Picks, where we give out a Gold, Silver, and Bronze selections every Tuesday during the NHL season. There are nine games on the NHL docket tonight, giving us plenty of opportunities to win some cash.  I'll begin my evening by focusing on two games, the Washington Capitals @ Florida Panthers, and the Dallas Stars @ Tampa Bay Lightning, I think there are some good bets in those games. As a nightcap, I'll be tuning into the San Jose Sharks @ Vegas Golden Knights game to see if the Golden Knights can end our night on a winning note.

Below I highlight my Gold, Silver, and Bronze selections for tonight's games. Last Tuesday was a good day that saw us go (2-1), bringing our season record to (6-6).

Gold Selection

Washington Capitals @ Florida Panthers – Pick: Matthew Tkachuk Over 3.5 Shots (-145)

Tkachuk has been a big-time moneymaker this season with this bet. In his 13 games so far, he has had four or more shots in 11 of them. Also, Tkachuk hasn't played a home game where he's recorded fewer than four shots yet, which looks good for us since he's playing at home tonight. In total he has recorded 68 shots this season, an average of 5.23 per game, and that's an extremely high average.

The Washington Capitals should be a good matchup for Tkachuk to hit the over for us. The Capitals are in the middle of the pack in the NHL for shots against, allowing an average of 31.3 shots against per game. However, the Capitals are averaging the ninth-most shots against per game for road teams, allowing an average of 35.1 shots against per game. They are also averaging 6:40 minutes shorthanded per game on the road, the eighth-most for road teams this year. With how hot Tkachuk has been at home, and how much worse the Capitals are defensively on the road, I expect Tkachuk to continue to rack up the shots.

Silver Selection

San Jose Sharks @ Vegas Golden Knights – Pick: Vegas Golden Knights In Regulation (-150)

The Golden Knights have been absolutely fantastic this season. They currently have a record of 13-3 and are sitting in second place in the NHL with 26 points. The Golden Knights are 5-2 at home this season, with four of their wins coming in regulation. Also, they are only allowing an average of 1.43 goals against per game at home, the second-fewest for home teams in the NHL.

The San Jose Sharks haven't been very good so far, as expected, currently sitting with a record of 5-9-3. They have the sixth-fewest points in the NHL with 13, half as many as the Golden Knights. The Sharks are also near the bottom of the standings for goals per game on the road, averaging 2.5, the seventh-fewest in the NHL.

Tonight, I expect the Golden Knights to continue to prove that they are true Stanley Cup contenders and the Sharks to continue to look like a lottery team.

Bronze Selection

Dallas Stars @ Tampa Bay Lightning – Pick: Over 5.5 (-150)

These two teams have been hitting this over like crazy this season. The Tampa Bay Lightning have had nine of their last ten games go over 5.5 goals, whereas the Dallas Stars have been in seven straight games with over 5.5 goals. Six of the last seven road games for the Stars have gone over 5.5 goals, and five of the last six home games for the Lightning have hit the over as well. Another confidence booster for this pick is that the Lightning will be starting their backup goalie Brian Elliott tonight. Since these two teams have combined to go over 5.5 goals in 16 of their last 17 games, and the Lightning are starting their backup, look for this to be a high-scoring game.
