NHL Thursday Player Props: McDavid and Hayes Keep Shooting; Montembeault Keeps Saving

It is Thursday once again, so let's find some winning NHL props. The NHL schedule is packed with 13 games tonight which means we have an overwhelming number of options to find some winning prop bets. I've taken my time to carefully look over every matchup tonight, and I think I've found a few props that can win us some money. The research is done, the picks are in, and now it's time to watch some hockey!

Below, I highlight three player props that stood out to me for tonight's games. Our record this season stands at (19 – 8) after going (3 – 0) last Thursday, hopefully, we can sweep the board again tonight!

Connor McDavid – Over 3.5 Shots (-114)

It's never a bad bet to back the best player in the world and that's what I'm going to do tonight. McDavid has been racking up the points lately, as per usual, and he's also been piling up the shots as well. So far this season he is averaging 4.07 shots and 6.02 shot attempts per game. Over his last 10 games, McDavid is averaging 4.9 shots and 6.9 shot attempts per game, outperforming his season average by nearly a shot per game over that span. Also, McDavid has recorded 4 or more shots in six straight games, eight of his last nine, and in nine of his last 10 home games. That's as consistent as it gets when it comes to winning shot bets. McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, who are in their second game of a back-to-back. In his lone game versus the Lightning this season McDavid tallied 5 shots and in his two games last season against the Lightning he recorded 12 shots. With how consistent McDavid has been with his shot totals recently, and how well he has performed against the Lightning over the last two years, I am confident that McDavid will get us the win tonight.

Kevin Hayes – Over 2.5 Shots (-139)

Kevin Hayes has been producing a lot of shots recently and the Chicago Blackhawks are a perfect matchup for him to continue to do so. Hayes has been averaging 2.84 shots and 5.02 shot attempts per game this season – not bad – but over his last five games, he is averaging 4.0 shots and 6.6 shot attempts per game. Hayes outperforming his season averages, by a lot, has led to him recording 3 or more shots in five of his last six games, and seven of eight home games. Chicago averages 33.5 shots against per game, the sixth most in the NHL, and 35.8 shots against per game while on the road, the second most for road teams. On top of being one the worst shot suppression teams overall, Chicago also allows the fifth most shots to opposing Left Wingers, which bodes well for Hayes tonight. Considering how hot Hayes has been lately, and how many shots Chicago allows per game, I expect Hayes to pile up the shots tonight.

Sam Montembeault – Over 30.5 Saves (-110)

Just like last week, the Montreal Canadiens still aren't good defensively and that's why I am once again betting on Montembeault. The Canadiens are allowing an average of 33.8 shots against per game this season, the fifth most in the NHL. But, over their last 5 games, the Canadiens are averaging 37.2 shots against per game, allowing 3.4 more shots per game than their season average. On top of that they are hosting the Florida Panthers tonight, who average 35.4 shots per game, the second most in the NHL. When it comes to Montembeault himself, he's actually been quite successful with this exact bet recently. Montembeault has recorded 31 or more saves in six of his last eight games, and over those eight games, he is averaging 34.25 saves per game. With how bad the Canadiens are at suppressing shots, how many shots the Panthers take, and how many saves Montembeault has been making lately, look for Montembeault to hit the 31-save mark again tonight.
