DFS Thursday: Jets Flying High; Goals in St. Louis; Schaefer’s Pricing, and More

Good day DFS crew! This is a tougher slate for me to gage and resist the urge just to throw in an Edmonton Oilers stack against the New York Rangers and call it a day. I haven't built yet and Edmonton's top line is almost always in play, but there are a couple spots that caught my eye that I may pivot over to.

Winnipeg Jets
I'm telling you all, the regression is coming from this Chicago Blackhawks club. We didn't see it last game out against the Ottawa Senators, but I'm keeping in the back of my mind that the Sens dominated most of the second period of that game, they just sort of…I guess Ottawa'd their way out of it? Watching the Hawks as much as I do though, there are two clubs that have given this team fits over the past few seasons. The first would be Vancouver who have beaten them in their last 11 meetings, and the next would be Winnipeg, who is 9-0-1 against Chicago in their last ten meetings. Chicago also is taking the most penalties per game in the NHL, and while Spencer Knight has been good for them at all strengths, I have a lot of interest in Winnipeg. Obviously, the top line comes to mind here, they will be fully correlated and could see decent matchups tonight. This is a stack where I could see adding in Josh Morrissey or Neal Pionk on the blue line and making it a 4-3-1 build if that's how your lineup shakes out. If you want to drop to the second line, I don't think that's a bad call either as you could two-man Vladislav Namestnikov and Alex Iafallo…and yes, you can even add in Jonathan Toews. I am excited to see Toews take the ice against Chicago along with looking forward to sending my Hawk Talk chat the Shawn Michaels, "I'm sorry, I love you" GIF as he knocks out Ric Flair at WrestleMania.
Vancouver Canucks vs. St. Louis Blues
Rarely, and I mean rarely, do I game stack. It's just not a strategy that has worked out for me much in the past, so I do tend to avoid it. That said, this might just be the perfect spot to do it. Starting off with Vancouver, they'll see a St. Louis team that this week alone has already lost 6-3 and 5-2. Along with that, both Jordan Binnington and Joel Hofer have been abysmal to start the season, so to me, it doesn't even really matter which goaltender is guarding the net tonight. I'll go to the Vancouver top line to start my build, and with Conor Garland out the lineup, then I may just two-man Jake DeBrusk and Elias Pettersson. I don't mind the second line in this matchup either as both Evander Kane and Brock Boeser are good wing options, and that's considering as well that Kane is shooting a fair bit but with no goals on the season so far. Again, I'm a Hawks fan, so I can confidently say that Lucas Reichel is not a second line center, but for one night going up against this St. Louis club, I'm fine with the play. If your build really needed a depth line elsewhere you can add Kiefer Sherwood as a one-off but that would be about as low down the lines as I would go.
For St. Louis, this has to be a kitchen sink game for them…right? This is a club that came a second (literally), from advancing in playoffs last season. Not to mention, if Quinn Hughes is out then my sights go to St. Louis. The problem I run into with the Blues is just what line to play because if St. Louis is down early then maybe they shift their forward groups up. I really do think this is going to be a kitchen sink game for them so give me a stack of Dylan Holloway – Pius Suter – Jordan Kyrou. Even if you wanted to two-man both Kyrou and Hollaway they are $5,600 and $5,500 which is a dramatic dip in price from a week ago. St. Louis wouldn't be a priority for me but if you're building say three-lineups and want to stack this game, I think it might be a solid move. Would I watch this game? No. But would I stack this game? Yes.
Defensemen
My ceiling tonight is Dougie Hamilton coming in at a cool $6,400. Sticking closer to the upper to mid $5k range I like Matthew Schaefer at $5,700 (he won't be under $6k for long), and Miro Hesikanen at $5,400. Sean Walker might be a tad bit steep at $4,300 but if you get to him in your builds then I think that's just fine. Right under him is my guy Neal Pionk at $4,200. I say he's my guy because somehow, he usually either ends up on my fantasy teams or in stacks with or without Winnipeg. It's like the kid in high school that you're sort of friends with only because for whatever reason you're in five of the same classes. For a punt, I like Filip Hronek at $3,700. If Hughes is out, then he will play plenty of minutes, and we have to hope the shot volume comes with it.
Goalies
I'm sad because I want to go back to the good ole days (Tuesday), where I could roster Connor Hellebuyck for under $8k. For me…and I cringe saying this, I don't mind Dan Vladar at $8k as a spend up. I can't say that I'll get there, but going up against Nashville is a good spot. Not sure if it's $8k good, but if you use optimizers or like to live life on the edge, then I could get behind playing him. For me, my goaltenders tonight are all in a row – Thatcher Demko ($7,400), Igor Shesterkin ($7,300) and if Arturs Silovs ($7,200) is in net for the Pens I could see going down the line to roster him. For Demko, this would only be if I am not stacking the Blues, and the reason Igor is interesting is that the matchup versus Edmonton could lead to decent volume coming his way.
Good luck tonight everybody!
