DFS Tuesday: Low-Roster Dallas Spot; Carolina’s New Second Line; Seth Jones’ Production, and More

Good morning, everyone! I haven't played since Saturday and am very ready to get back in. As far as slates go, this is one where I'm leaning pricier lineups, but good news is that I believe we can find decent dance partners to go with them. Let's dive in!
Slate Preview
Dallas Stars
I've been outside looking in on playing Dallas so far this season. I had them on the bubble last Tuesday in their matchup against Winnipeg, and did consider something with their depth against the Blackhawks on Saturday. Today though, I might look to roster something from this Stars club going up against New Jersey.
I doubt that Connor Hellebuyck gets his first start for the Devils tonight, but if he does that only amps up my interest as I'll go against the "shiny new toy", any day of the week for a goaltender. Different circumstances, but I couldn't wait to go against Tuukka Rask when he returned for the Bruins, to go against what was chalky roster numbers.
Even though I don't believe Hellebuyck starts tonight, I still lean Dallas. Jason Robertson and Mikko Rantanen both have five points in their last eight games and if this power play is finally getting off the ground, then I have real interest here. You can pair them with Miro Heiskanen, Thomas Harley, or honestly both, and have a really fun four-man stack for a 4-3-1.
In single-entry contests, I could be right there on the front lines with something Dallas for my build, and if they make sense in single-entry then I think they play just fine in multi-entry.
Carolina Hurricanes
Typically, I don't usually look to stack clubs going into Boston, but let's chase volume! The Carolina Hurricanes are at 36.7 shots a game in their last three outings and could make for a interesting build tonight.
If I'm looking at the Hurricanes for my build, I do lean the second line slightly but that does come with some worry. Taylor Hall draws back into the lineup tonight which could shake things up for the Hurricanes second line, and Seth Jarvis has played a larger role for this club in each of his games back from injury.
Still, this second line of Logan Stankoven ($6,100), Nikolaj Ehlers ($5,900) and Jackson Blake ($6,200) each have five points in their last three games, so there's some reason to believe that if the Hurricanes get off to a good start tonight, that this trio stays together. While there's no power play correlation, I'm alright with that, as the Carolina has relied more at 5v5 scoring so far this season than on the man advantage. Even with this second line priced up as a top line, you can pair them with parts of San Jose's top line, the St. Louis second line, or my favorite would be the Dallas top line plus a defender from the Stars that we just talked about. In single entry contests, Carolina might make the cut for my lineup.
Minnesota Wild
I'd like to dedicate this one to, "SHOOT IT!" guy up in the 300's at every hockey game you've ever been to. That's just what the Wild top line has been doing so far on the season, and they're in a matchup against the Mammoth where I don't see that slowing down.
The Utah Mammoth come into this matchup with three games of at least four goals against in their last four contests, allowing 24 shots against per game in that stretch. This is also a club so far in October that is tied second in goals against on the penalty kill. On the flipside of that, the Wild are at the second-best expected goals for rate on the power play since October 1st.
It gets expensive build, coming at collectively at $24,000 so in single-entry that would price me out, but in multiple entry I do think that having one expensive Minnesota build could pay off tonight.
Defensemen
At the top of the pricing tier, I lean Matthew Schaefer at $7K or Quinn Hughes at $6,700. Mikhail Sergachev is a nice offensive option at $6K, although I do wish he wish that he was still priced down between $5,300-$5,700 like he was last week.
In the upper-midrange, I love Miro Heiskanen at $5,600 skating around 27 minutes a night. Jackson LaCombe at $5,400 is another great option for that same reason – ice time. Seth Jones at $4,800 has one goal on the season…but 11 assists, and in a nice matchup. I don't mind rostering him at all, as he's at a great price.
For cheaper defensemen, I feel like we may have missed the offensive window for Jacob Trouba at $3,900 with five points in five games, but if you have San Jose build and want to spend up from Dmitry Orlov, then Trouba makes sense. My punt d-man on the night though goes to Tyler Kleven on the Senators. Dude has 34 blocks so far on the season and skates close to 20 minutes a night, the perfect punt option for expensive builds.
Goalies
The good news on this slate is that I don't believe that you must spend over $8K in net tonight as my ceiling would be Jake Oettinger at $7,900 who should see good volume coming back from the Devils. At the same price, Jacob Fowler has been great for Montreal and may also see decent shot volume from St. Louis on the road.
Just below Oettinger and Fowler, if Pyotr Kochetkov gets the starts for Carolina, I have interest in slotting him in as my netminder for $7,800. Seven starts and seven wins and could see him go overlooked in a difficult road matchup.
If I'm spending down in net, it's for Anton Forsberg at $7,200…revenge game against the Blackhawks? Look, if you're just chasing the win this could be a slam dunk spot. Inside baseball but the Hawks have been under heavy scrutiny from media and fans here since their last matchup against the Panthers, and if yesterday's morning skate is any indication of what lines we'll see, then I don't worry about the Kings on a road back-to-back.
That's it for now — best of luck tonight!
