Olympic hockey sure was fun to watch, but I am craving some competition. If I can pick NHL winners correct about 70% of the time, how hard is it to pick Canada to beat Germany or Norway? I will be picking my winners for Saturday’s games until the season is over now, as my partner in crime Marty Kwiaton is touring the world looking for the next Alexander Daigle.

These picks are sure to win you money. If you want to be positive you collect cash, just pick the teams I have winning and take out the extra goal in some of my plus picks this week. My winners are solid, but sometimes I gamble on the extra goal to increase my odds at bigger paydays.

What a big week we just witnessed in the hockey world.  Washington and Ottawa have twelve and eleven game win streaks respectively.  On Thursday February 11th, the two teams will face off, and the NHL should be scrambling to get the game on Versus in the US, as currently it will only be shown on TSN for Canadian viewers. For the two teams to remain unbeaten until that team, Washington will have to defeat Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Montreal, and Ottawa will have to beat Toronto and Calgary.

These two streaks mark only the 2nd time in NHL history that two teams have concurrent winning streaks of more than 10 games. In other hockey news, the Devils trade for the biggest fish in the trade market – Ilya Kovalchuk.  On top of that, Toronto and Calgary completely overhauled their rosters (which could be bad news for Ottawa’s winning streak).

My DobberHockey Saturday predictions are on fire right now. Unfortunately for me, every other day of the week has turned sour over the past 10.  My bookie loves me again.  Hopefully a good six hours of research for this article can conjure up some winners like always for the Dobber faithful. Heading in to this weekend my Saturday picks boast a winning percentage of 62.9.

There are a lot of early games, so be sure to check the time of NHL action on Saturday.

NHL Picks for Saturday, April 05, 2008

It is the last Saturday of the year and I would like to thank those people who followed my picks. It was a tough year for everyone who was “man” enough to put their picks down on paper so to speak. Post-lockout hockey truly is the toughest sport to pick a winner or wager your hard earned money on.

For this week, things change a little bit. If the game has any meaning at all, you have to try a figure out what teams are thinking and where they would like to be seeded.  Playoff teams are going to be entering into potential seven-game wars with other teams and they want to be sure that they match up well with their prospective opponent if they can. Good luck, and thanks again.
