The New Jersey Devils continued a stellar offseason – even though we’re in camp now – with the addition of Sami Vatanen for one year at $2M (as of now, it is still uncon. Remember that Vatanen played with them for the last two seasons before being traded at the 2020 trade deadline to Carolina. [...]
While talking with Steve Laidlaw a couple months ago, he mused that Aaron Ekblad may be ready for PP1 minutes. I told him I thought Alex Wennberg would get PP1 minutes to help replace Dadonov’s playmaking. Well: With special teams work kicking off today at #FlaPanthers camp, here's one interesting power play unit they've [...]
It was more or less confirmed by Arpon Basu of The Athletic that teams will be able to send their CHL prospects to the AHL to start the year. That means guys on the bubble like Dylan Cozens or Bowen Byram have a place to play when the season starts and teams aren’t forced to [...]
Ryan Callahan has announced his retirement. He didn’t play in 2019-20 due to injury and had been in and out of Tampa’s lineup for a few years before that, so it did seem his time was winding down. At his best, back with the Rangers, the guy was a multi-cat monster in fantasy. It is [...]
The Kings added Andreas Athanasiou to the roster yesterday, signing him for a year at $1.2-million. This is an intriguing landing spot for AA because this team has been devoid of true depth scoring for many years and he is not far removed from a 30-goal season. At the same time, the top line seems [...]
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and happy holidays to everyone. We want to thank all the Dobberheads for their continued readership and support. This has been a very tough year for everyone so we hope that at some point, we were able to provide some healthy distraction about the sport we love. Yesterday, these [...]
Christmas Eve! Happy holidays to everyone out there and for those who observe Christmas, that day is almost here. As is tradition, I’m going to do a wish list for today’s and tomorrow’s Ramblings. I typically do this every year but given the unique situation we’re in, I thought it’d be worth a little change [...]
Even with Luke Kunin to sign as an RFA, Nashville had lots of cap space and decided to bring back a familiar face, signing winger Mikael Granlund to a one-year deal worth $3.75M. He returns to a Predators team that traded Kevin Fiala for Granlund back in 2018-19, and he’s back for another run, hopefully, [...]
Washington bolstered its forward depth by signing left winger Conor Sheary to a one-year deal worth $735,000. He heads to a Caps team that will be looking to add another Stanley Cup during the Ovechkin era, as he’s a free agent at the end of the season. With Ovechkin, Vrana, Wilson, and Oshie all ready, [...]
For much of the offseason, I and others have been musing about how Tampa Bay was going to get under the cap. They are two million over the cap as it is, with Anthony Cirelli and Erik Cernak both to sign. We got a few details on the situation Monday, and it’s not good news: [...]
