The New York Rangers continued to clear out cap space by trading winger Jimmy Vesey to the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo, you’ll remember, traded for Vesey’s rights a few years ago but were unable to sign him. He eventually would end up with the Rangers. Everything has come full circle, kind of. What Buffalo [...]
The pending Mitch Marner signing, whenever it happens, required the Leafs to move out some money. They did that with Patrick Marleau a little over a week ago and that continued on Canada Day as they rumoured trade came to fruition: defenceman Nikita Zaitsev was traded to Ottawa in exchange for defenceman Cody Ceci. [...]
The Vegas Golden Knights were another team facing a cap crunch and needing to ship out a contract or two. That feels amazing to say after two years in the league but here we are. Anyway, they traded Miller to Buffalo for a second-round pick in 2021 and a third-round pick in 2022. Miller [...]
The Washington Capitals qualified Andre Burakovsky, meaning he was due $3.25M this year. The team was tight against the cap with some signings to make so a move seemed likely. That move came on Friday afternoon as he was traded to Colorado in exchange for a second- and third-round pick in 2020 and minor [...]
It had been kind of expected since the trade but the Carolina Hurricanes have officially bought out Patrick Marleau. He had been acquired from the Leafs in a salary dump and the expectation was that this would happen. Marleau is now free to sign anywhere on July 1st but it’s likely going to be [...]
Late on Wednesday night, or early Thursday morning depending on location, Carolina took advantage of their cap space and acquired centre Erik Haula from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Nicolas Roy and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2021. The conditions can be found here. Haula missed most of 2018-19 with a gruesome [...]
One of the storylines for the summer was what Florida goalie Roberto Luongo would do. Try to rehab and play at least one more year? Go on LTIR if the issue persisted? Retire? Well, in an announcement that could only be made in the vein of Roberto Luongo’s personality, we got our answer: [...]
In a move to solidify the defence a bit, Colorado traded for Arizona blue liner Kevin Connauton and a third-round pick next year in exchange for centre Carl Soderberg. Soderberg had a career-high with 23 goals in 2018-19. That would be his first 20-goal season of his career and he turns 34 in October. [...]
Blues rookie Robert Thomas underwent left wrist surgery, the team announced. There is no timeline given right now other than he will rehab over the summer and be re-evaluated ahead of training camp. He really showed well over the final couple months of the season and into the playoffs. Hopefully this doesn’t derail his development. * Looking [...]
We can take another potential free agent off the board as Alex Edler signed a two-year, $12-million extension with Vancouver. The 33-year old blue liner had 34 points in 56 games last year with the Canucks. Obviously, injuries are the concern. He’s averaged 64 games per season since the 2013 lockout year and has [...]
