For the last five NHL seasons, starting with the lockout-shortened campaign, I had been releasing my own draft guide at the now-defunct ProjectRoto.com. Included in those draft guides were my rankings for standard roto leagues. A few years ago, I began to post my rankings at FantasyPros.com, a site that publishes and aggregates the rankings [...]
It is natural to have to talk about the same guys over and over as draft season arrives. The common denominator among all fantasy hockey leagues is that the upper-tier players are involved in all of them. In order to reach the largest audience, talking about the most popular players is the place to start. [...]
A lot of these Ramblings over the last couple weeks – and really months – have been stat-heavy but at a point, it’s worth taking a step back. For that reason, let’s look at some stories that have emerged over the last week, as well as some stories to keep an eye on heading into [...]
Bias is simply a part of everyday life. It ranges from the mundane – picking one lunch diner over another simply because of personal connections with owners/employees despite food/service quality – to the outright damaging. Regardless, cognitive bias is simply everywhere. This is no different in fantasy sports. Fantasy owners can be biased because of [...]
In my Ramblings a few days ago I discussed how to search for value in drafts with one of the obvious categories to target being players who shot at an abnormally low rate compared to prior career norms. One player rebounding from a poor 2015-16 in 2016-17 that I mentioned was Torey Krug. It was [...]
Every year, there are players who either breakout for a huge fantasy season seemingly out of nowhere or players who reclaim their former fantasy glory. In other words, there are always players who provide a lot of fantasy value by being underappreciated by the public. That is an obvious paragraph; of course there are always [...]
The Montreal Canadiens have a centre problem in that they don’t have any. Okay that’s obviously hyperbole but with the seeming unwillingness for either the prior or current coaching regime to give Alex Galchenyuk the top pivot slotting, there is concern here. Phillip Danault seems to be a quality player but I don’t think he’s [...]
Last week, I spent my time in these Ramblings going through the rankings released from Yahoo given that they opened their fantasy hockey lobby. Remember that the purpose of this exercise isn’t necessarily to denigrate the rankings of another but rather to gauge where the public might be moving with their draft picks. Also, too [...]
Over the weekend, these Ramblings covered Yahoo’s opening of their fantasy hockey lobby, as well as their rankings for individual positions. Having gone through the three forward positions, it’s time to move to the blue line to go through their defence rankings and where some may be too high or too low. Keep in mind [...]
As nerdy as it sounds to say, I always look forward to the right-wing position (in hockey! let’s not get political here) more than others when projection time comes around. For basically the last decade at left wing, it’s been Alex Ovechkin, and then a handful of elite players behind him that have emerged at [...]
