Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson has had a very busy off-season so far. He has made a big splash on both the free agent market and the trade front. Rick Nash finally has some legitimate linemates to play with, and Nash has shown what he can do with good linemates while playing internationally. It is put up or shut up time for the potential 50-goal scorer.

Now that the dust from the UFA season has pretty much settled, many of the rosters around the league are beginning to take form. There is still one big fish left in the open market (Mats Sundin), but who knows when he will decide whether he wants to eat poutine or sushi next season. There are numerous players whose fantasy values have risen and fallen based on what has happened since July 1st. Here are a few of the players who will benefit from new situations or teammates.

Ryan Miller

Complacency breeds inconsistency - a lesson Ryan Miller was forced to learn the hard way last year. Don’t get me wrong, he played remarkably well, even heroic at times. But with no big guns in the lineup, he found out exactly what level of work ethic and focus it actually takes to carry a mediocre team for an entire season. Nevertheless, a vital lesson was learned, and it is with this “transition” year under his belt that I feel Miller is primed to have a great fantasy season.

There always has been (and always will be) an ongoing debate about who is the best player in the league. Gretzky and Lemieux battled over the title for a long time, and after them it was the likes of Jagr, Sakic, Forsberg, and Fedorov. Lately it has included Iginla, Thornton and Lecavalier, but the future is really about three players. Crosby, Ovechkin, and Malkin. This article is about my take on the battle for NHL supremacy.

Andrew Raycroft

The History
Once upon a time, Andrew Raycroft was chosen over Vesa Toskala to start against the Ottawa Senators on Opening Night, thanks to a weak decision by Paul Maurice. Things didn’t go as planned, the Leafs were shut out 4-0 at home and the season’s dismal start was etched in history forever.
Just two measly wins all year long and no hope for a better tomorrow, Raycroft was left to wallow in his many blunders. That was until Toronto bought him out and along came Colorado, licking their chops and feasting their eyes on Raycroft, ready to do what they do best – give goalies another chance. As it was with Patrick Roy and Jose Theodore, is now with Raycroft, and ever shall be, forever and ever.
