The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired wingers Nick Foligno from the Columbus Blue Jackets and Stefan Noesen from the San Jose Sharks. The Blue Jackets receive Toronto’s first-round pick in the 2021 draft and fourth-round pick in the 2022 draft. The Sharks receive Toronto’s fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft. This is Toronto’s version of [...]

The Florida Panthers have signed winger Nikita Gusev to a one-year contract worth $1 million. Gusev recently had his contract bought out by the Devils, as for whatever reason he didn’t seem to fit into their plans. Although he scored 44 points in 66 games in his first season with the Devils, Gusev recorded just [...]

The Tampa Bay Lightning made their big swing on Saturday, acquiring David Savard from the Columbus Blue Jackets, through the Detroit Red Wings (for salary retention purposes). Here’s the full trade: https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/status/1380996850107482116 Savard has played his whole 10-year career with the Blue Jackets, and for the last number of years has been a reliable presence on [...]

The Florida Panthers have acquired Brandon Montour from the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round pick. Montour showed offensive upside as a prospect in Anaheim, but he couldn’t get over the 0.4 PTS/GP mark either this season or last in Buffalo. Surprisingly, his power-play time also declined from around 2:00/GP in Anaheim to just 0:11/GP this [...]

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired goalie Devan Dubnyk from the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Greg Pateryn and a fifth-round pick in 2021. Even with Jonas Johansson’s 28-save shutout on Friday, the Avalanche weren’t sold on him or their other backup goaltending options after Philipp Grubauer. Johansson has only 17 games of NHL experience and [...]

The Florida Panthers have started shedding some salary, and it’s begun with Brett Connolly. The former 20-goal scorer had fallen out of favour with the Panthers and was infrequently in the lineup. He has been dealt to Chicago in a significant deal, at least in the number of pieces. It breaks down as follows: To [...]

It's not common that trades break after a game has already finished on the day, but with an early start on the Ottawa/Edmonton game, the Islanders and the Devils took the spotlight off the games for the evening, agreeing to a deal to send both Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri to Long Island. Many had [...]

Marc Bergevin said that the Habs would be very cash-strapped at the deadline, but as Bergevin has shown before, he’s not always truthful with his proclamations in the media. Montreal traded for Eric Staal late Friday afternoon, sending a third- and fifth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Sabres in exchange. The Sabres retained [...]

Ralph Kruger was hired less than two years ago by the Buffalo Sabres after a poor 2018-19 season. He was brought in to bring a winning culture and a strong work ethic to the Sabres. Instead, it seems that he quickly lost the room, the culture hasn’t really changed, and the team had a 36-49-12 [...]
