There’s a lot of hockey about to be played in Vancouver over the next couple of months, but very little of it will be done by the resident NHL club.  Once the Canucks play their final game in GM Place before the Olympics on the 27th of January, they won’t return until the13th of March.

That means the Canucks will play an extraordinary 14 games on the road, and in light of the Canucks markedly worse performance on the road this season, there is cause for concern.

What does the Canucks extended road trip mean for your fantasy team?

Looking Back at the Pre-Season Guide

Since we rolled the calendar over to a new decade along with the pending release of the Mid-Season guide later this week, I thought it would be a great idea to take a look back at the Pre-Season guide and see where I stand in comparison to four months ago. It’s always good to take a look back at past mistakes to help us prepare for the future. Plus it will give an insight to those who haven’t seen the content of the Dobber guides first hand.

Saturday’s NHL Picks – with Marty and Thunder

Paul Stastny

Happy 2010 everyone!!!  I’d like to congratulate Steve Johnson for his recent hot streak with picking winners. It is time to start betting some of my hard earned cash on his picks next week -I need some spending money before I go to Jamaica.  Last week Thunder and I tied with identical 6-6 records; however she gets the edge for calling that Dallas tie.  There is plenty of action this Saturday, and I hope everyone enjoyed that CAN-US New Years Eve clash, and the outdoor game from Fenway yesterday.  Here’s hoping all those underachieving bums on our fantasy hockey teams start producing. Cheers!

We’ve all heard of the phrase “the numbers don’t lie”, but there is always room for statistical anomalies that make each and every one of us scratch our heads. This week we’ll take a look at 17 statistical anomalies along with my thoughts on whether the numbers will re-align itself or are they in for the long run.

Rock and Roli

With all of the great young goaltending talent in the league right now, it’s no surprise that some of the wise and durable veterans get lost in the fantasy mix. Once you look past the popular guys like Martin Brodeur and Tim Thomas, there stands one 40-year-old man fully capable of playing consistent, quality stretches of good hockey.

Dwayne Roloson has performed beyond the expectations of most analysts out there and has become a perfect fit for the New York Islanders. On a team loaded with so much young and up-and-coming talent, Roloson is the perfect type of goalie for these players – one that instills confidence in his teammates simply due to his unyielding work ethic.

After poring over second-half statistics for the 2008-09 season, as well as this season so far, not to mention polling the members of DobberHockey’s forum, I have whittled the list down to 15 events of the past year that had the greatest impact on fantasy hockey in 2009.
