Hockey Rambling

The Midseason Guide is ready! Purchase and download yours at the Dobber Sports shop if you haven’t already. This year, I was more heavily involved in the Midseason Guide than I have been in past years. The most time-consuming job for me was the Projections, which come with an added time constraint because the hockey [...]

I’m taking over Ian’s Ramblings as he was helping head the work on the Midseason Guide that was released yesterday. A ton of hard work compressed into a very short time-frame goes into it every year. It’s extremely relevant for a short period of time, and then by the end of January you’re too far [...]

The return of Eric Comrie to the Buffalo lineup has complicated matters for the Sabres. They needed to make room when he came back and one of the first moves was to send Ukko-Pekka Luukonen to the AHL. That was just a paper move, though, to clear a roster spot, and Luukkonen was back in [...]

Despite injuries on the blue line, the Toronto Maple Leafs forward crop has largely remained healthy this season, especially the top-6: all of Auston Matthews, John Tavares, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Michael Bunting, and Alex Kerfoot have played every game this season. That streak came to an end on Wednesday night as Matthews sat out: [...]

We’re just about at the midpoint of the season now, and I just submitted my input, so thoughts on the second-half are what’s on the mind at the moment. Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson are both expected to make their season debuts today (Sunday). Backstrom had undergone significant hip resurfacing surgery, so I had wondered if he would be returning at all. I’m not sure how he’ll be used, but I wonder how his return affects Dylan Strome, who has been centering Alex Ovechkin [...]

Nikolaj Ehlers, Blake Wheeler, Cole Perfetti, and Nate Schmidt all returned to the Jets' lineup on Friday. Ehlers’ return is particularly notable, as he had only played two games prior to his sports hernia surgery. The one gripe Ehlers owners have had with the Jets throughout his career is his continued usage on the second-unit [...]

Max Pacioretty made his long-awaited Carolina Hurricanes debut, as if the Metropolitan Division leaders need to bolster their lineup any further. Pacioretty was held without a point although he registered six shots and two hits if you decided to throw him into your lineup. I’m sometimes hesitant to immediately place a player into my lineup [...]
