Hockey Rambling

In my last Ramblings, we discussed training camp battles from the Atlantic Division. Even though camps don’t open for a couple weeks yet, it’s important to keep an eye on certain camp battles and we’ll be continuing our way around the league today with the Metro Division. One thing I have noticed about team training [...]

It’s hard to focus on fantasy hockey so soon after Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were senselessly taken from us by a suspected drunk driver. Although we don’t know players personally, there’s a closeness that develops as we watch them play and become invested in their performance. I was caught off guard by the [...]

Seth Jarvis is the latest restricted free agent to sign on the dotted line, agreeing to an eight-year, $63.2 million contract with the Hurricanes. PuckPedia shows a cap hit of $7.5 million per season, which is the fourth-highest on the Canes after Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Dmitry Orlov. Their core of Aho, Svechnikov, Jarvis, [...]

The hockey world was in mourning on Friday with the sudden and tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau. The two were cycling in New Jersey on Thursday evening when they were struck by an impaired driver. This is devastating news on so many levels. https://twitter.com/BlueJacketsNHL/status/1829481858968535120 Johnny Gaudreau was 31 years old, [...]

When I returned on Wednesday afternoon from my trip to Oregon, I hadn’t started at all on three consecutive days’ worth of Ramblings, with the first one due in just over 24 hours. A mock draft seems like something that could get the ball rolling after pushing aside fantasy hockey for a few days of [...]

Training camps don’t start for a few weeks, but it’s important to look ahead to start wrapping our collective heads around what to look for. My next few Ramblings are going to cover training camp battles, going division by division, and today we start with the Atlantic.   One thing I have noticed about team [...]

Each of our editors has favourite players, favourite teams, players they end up commenting on more often, and players that end up being a little forgotten or overlooked. It feels like when writing the Ramblings we try our best to cover as much as we can as evenly as possible, but there is certainly a [...]

In two of my Ramblings last week, players that I’m avoiding and players I’m targeting were both discussed. A lot of the data used from that Ramblings came from the Underdog Fantasy website and their mock drafts. Today’s Ramblings will discuss the differences between that site, ESPN, and Yahoo!, and in particular when it comes [...]

In this week’s Ramblings, I’ll share a ‘value pick’ for each team. While such a term might paint visions of McDoubles and Junior Chickens, this isn’t like the McDonald’s value menu – with cheap items at cheap prices. It’s more like your grocery store flyer, highlighting value in products of various price points. I’ve included [...]

Although it’s too early for single-season drafts (at least in my opinion), many keeper leagues have started their entry drafts for 2024-drafted players. I had one league complete one recently, so I’ll share the results. It’s only a 12-player draft because it is a 12-team league with a one-round draft, so it may be smaller [...]
