The Red Wings brought in another free agent, adding Dominik Kubalik who was strangely not tendered as an RFA in Chicago. He received a two-year contract worth $2.5 million per season. What the Red Wings are getting: Kubalik will be 26 by the time the season starts, and is just entering his prime. He’s also [...]
Detroit continued a very busy day of signings as they got their second-line centre in Andrew Copp, bolstered the back-end by adding Ben Chiarot and Olli Maatta, and then went and got some winger help in the form of David Perron. We got it announced a few hours after free agency opened: https://twitter.com/renlavoietva/status/1547295431339687937 It was [...]
The Ducks have been fairly quiet through free agency, but their one notable move has been to bring in Frank Vatrano on a three-year deal worth $3.65M per season. Here was my initial thought on Vatrano before he signed: https://twitter.com/alexdmaclean/status/1546468208223330304 What the Ducks are getting: Vatrano had struggled lately with the Panthers, and with the [...]
The Dallas Stars have signed forward Mason Marchment to a four-year contract with a $4.5 million AAV. Marchment is capitalizing on a surprising breakout season, scoring 47 points in 54 games (0.87 PTS/GP). He also plays with a physical edge with 114 hits and 53 penalty minutes over those 54 games. If he can’t repeat [...]
Colin White was bought out this offseason by the Ottawa Senators, with a large reason being his age. As he is under 26 years old, they can save a lot of money against having to do it a couple years from now. They actually get a cap credit in 1 of the next 6 seasons [...]
The Chicago Blackhawks have handed one-year contracts to forwards Max Domi, Andreas Athanasiou ($3M each) and goaltender Alex Stalock ($750,000). And a two-year deal at $1.2M AAV for winger Colin Blackwell. The Blackhawks get: boom-or-bust, risk/reward forwards with tremendous upside and tremendous downside. Both Domi and Athanasiou get criticized for not always showing up. They [...]
Washington capitalized on their opportunity to reset in net this offseason, and after parting ways with both Vitek Vanecek and Ilya Samsonov, they have landed the big free agency fish in Darcy Kuemper, and will have Charlie Lindgren to back him up. Kuemper gets $5.25M per year for five years. Lindgren gets $1.1M per year [...]
The Hurricanes let Dougie Hamilton walk because they didn’t want to pay him until he was 37, and they traded Tony DeAngelo because they don’t want to pay him $5 million, so of course they go out and acquire a 37-year-old Brent Burns who will now cost them a little over $5 million per year [...]
One of the more intriguing goaltending options in an offseason where it seems musical chairs was the name of the game was Eric Comrie. Originally drafted by Winnipeg, he spent parts of eight seasons in the AHL, seven of them posting a save percentage of at least .900. He wasn’t going to get a real [...]
The Vancouver Canucks have signed underrated winger Ilya Mikheyev to a four-year deal worth $4.75M AAV and versatile forward Curtis Lazar to a three-year deal worth $1M AAV. The Canucks have also signed goaltender Collin Delia to a one-way contract to become their backup goaltender. The Canucks get: an underrated winger and fancy-stats darling who [...]
