Burnsy's picks are now in the DobberHockey Round 2 article. All the picks are in and we now have panel consensus.

Both Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa are out for Game 1 tonight.  Salo has a bruised tailbone and Bieksa remains sidelined with the flu.  Rookie Alex Edler and veteran Rory Fitzpatrick will replace them.

Central Scouting just moved Kyle Turris up to No. 1 on their list. He is a bit of wildcard, because he is not really facing challenging competition, but he makes a good boom or bust pickup over Kane, Voracek and Cherapanov.

Ray Whitney underwent successful shoulder surgery. He will need three months to rehab – time enough to get to training camp on time.

Sheldon Souray underwent shoulder surgery. What is up with the shoulders this week? He'll be fine for training camp.

Mike Knuble will undergo shoulder surgery this week. He should be ready for training camp, but it will be cutting it close.

It is possible we may have seen the last of Matthew Barnaby. The agitator extraordinaire missed the final 38 games and all of the playoffs with concussion symptoms.

Although Randy Carlyle is not saying for sure, it is looking like J-S Giguere will get the start tonight. I'm not a big fan of playoff teams not sticking with one goalie – I've never really seen it work when they go back and forth like this and then win the Cup. Whoever they go with they should stick to it. I would probably stick to Giggy.

Tim Connolly left practice Monday with a sore hamstring. Apparently the injury is minor and will not affect his play.

Sean Avery on the Sabres: “I’ve just secretly been making up things in my head about guys on their team that they’ve done to me so I can identify with them when we’re going in a corner,” Avery said Monday in New York. “I’ve already decided I hate all those guys"

Mark Bell is listed as doubtful for tomorrow's opener with a groin injury. He had not been productive anyway, while his replacement Joe Pavelski has been doing great. I doubt Bell would get into the lineup regardless.

As I noted in the Interactive Playoff Draft List, Nik Kronwall could be back by Round 3. This is starting to become a likelihood as he is somewhat ahead of schedule healing from his broken sacrum.

Tomas Holmstrom's eye injury will keep him out of Thursday's contest, which means Jiri Hudler will remain in the lineup. No estimate on Holmstrom's return.

Kevin Bieksa is still suffering from the flu that has been keeping him out of practice. He has had bloodwork done and doctors are trying to figure out exactly what is wrong with him.

There is speculation that Ray Emery has a sore glove hand. Players may have been keeping their shots away from the glove side in practice. He stopped a hard shot with his glove on Monday and it may have done some damage.
