Gaborik missed last night's contest with his groin injury. Shocked?  Dan Boyle underwent surgery Friday on his left wrist. The tendons had not healed properly healed and so they actually transferred part of the tendon from his index finger to the wrist. The surgery was a success and Boyle will be on the shelf for [...]

Nothing exemplifies the stock-marketesque up-and-down value of fantasy players more than missing 10 days of hockey almost completely and then throwing yourself back into it full throttle. Despite such a small window, players can bounce from rock bottom in value back to the top – and vice versa.

After missing nearly all things hockey while on vacation, I am finally able to delve back in. I notice some people who were diving off of certain sinking ships are now scrambling to get back on, while some flashes in the pan are suddenly not looking quite so inviting.

Here are some of the bigger changes in value, both good and bad, from October 31 to today…

It turns out that Scott Hartnell plays for the Flyers this season. Just in case you were wondering "whatever happened to Scott Hartnell?" He scored his first goal of the season last night and actually has two points and is a plus-2 in three games. This may be a sign of an awakening finally. Kimmo Timonen [...]

Lots of graduates in this month's edition of the Fantasy Prospects list and that resulted in quite a bit of movement.  By email request, here are my thoughts on the Emery vs. Gerber situation: Ottawa is looking very good for another strong Stanley Cup run and with Anahiem having just won the Cup with Giguere and [...]

Last week, we had a look at which players were under-performing.  This week we’ll focus on which players should be traded while their value is high. It is difficult to be completely confident that you are doing the right thing when trading a guy who is doing so well.  Will he continue to play at this level or will his point production slow down?  Maybe there’s a history of getting hurt and you’re constantly scanning the injury reports for his name.  A lot depends on your level of comfort.  Timing is essential on these guys.  It’s easy to hold on to players when they are lighting it up.  Leave it too late and their value plummets. It’s a good idea to trade them away for someone you believe has a better chance to succeed.

Havlat was back in full practice yesterday. He could be back this weekend. If so, expect a knee or groin injury by the middle of next week. Samsonov will be back in the lineup tonight. Patrick Lalime will start for the 'Hawks tonight. Ryan Whitney's groin still bothers him, but it is getting better. He will be back [...]

Matt Bugg will be appearing on Hockey's Future Radio this evening to discuss the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Drop by HockeysFutureRadio.com at 9:00 ET to listen!  Mike Modano finally passed Phil Housley for first place on the all-time points list for an American player. I say "finially" above because of his early season slump but also [...]

Following up last week’s column about buy-low trade targets, I’mfocusing on sell-high players this week. Those players who are off to hot starts, but who are bound to slow down dramatically in the coming weeks. If you wait too long to see if they are for real, you’ll lose the window of opportunity to sell high so don’t be a wimp and act now!

Dipietro did play last night and recorded a 3-2 win for the Isles. As reportrd yesterday, Dan Boyle does in fact need more surgery on his wrist and is out indefinately. Paul Ranger immediately assumes 25-30 mins a game. Tim Connolly is also out indefinately with an abdomen condition. This could mean sports hernia and if so [...]
