Tampa trades Boyle to Sharks for Carle
Dobber Sports
2008-07-04
The Lightning ships Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich to the Sharks for Matt Carle, Ty Wishart, a first in 2009 and a fourth in 2010.
Tampa Bay gets: a young offensive defenseman who has the ability to do what Dan Boyle did as early as two years from now. They also receive a top-notch defenseman prospect in Wishart, and a great pick in what should be a good draft.
San Jose gets: a Top 5 offensive defenseman, effectively replacing the loss of Brian Campbell. They saw what Campbell did for their team and they hated to lose that.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Boyle's value remains the same, but the Sharks forwards – the ones that really took off when Campbell arrived last season – can now be counted on for big points this year. This has repercussions throughout the San Jose lineup.
Carle will see a ton of ice time in Tampa Bay and they will probably work with him through his mistakes. I think he should get to the 40-point level that was expected of him last year.
Dobber rates Matt Carle a "buy": 38 to 47 points.
Dobber rates Dan Boyle a "hold": 54 to 66 points.
