Fredrik Modin has been placed on IR with a hip injury, which will give Nikita Filatov a longer look. Hopefully the three or so games that Filatov will now play will see him get more than four minutes of ice time. Malhotra was activated off IR.

The Wings have sent Darren Helm to Grand Rapids.

Further to the note below on Downie being demoted, the Flyers have recalled Andreas Nodl. Definitely worth watching. He will start on a line with Carter and Upshall.

Antero Niitimaki will get the start for Philly tonight.

Detroit rearguard Andreas Lilja had an appendectomy yesterday, the second such procedure on an NHL player this year – there seems to be one per year, but already there is two. Could it be gaining in popularity? Brad Stuart is apparently ready to return to the lineup so no further moves will be made.

After TB claimed Pettinger today, the waived Jason Ward to make room. Dave Koci was also waived by TB and claimed by St. Louis. He'll play while DJ King is sidelined.

The Rangers have placed Patrick Rissmiller on waivers, and Anaheim has waived Ken Klee.

Those who live in the Vancouver area: I make my debut in the Vancouver Sun today. You can check out my section in the four-page sports wrap.

Tampa Bay has claimed Matt Pettinger off of waivers. The Canucks may try to pull Ouellet through now.

Pavol Demitra is out with a torso injury. Consider him day-to-day. In a weird decision, the Canucks recalled Kyle Wellwood over Michel Ouellet. Perhaps it was a waiver thing. Anyway, Matt Pettinger was also recalled.

Oscar Moller had a two-point night last night, including his first NHL goal. Moller has quietly managed to get into every game and play between 13:38 and 15:42 of ice time. He should stick after the ninth game if he keeps this up.

Nine Kings have a minus-3 rating or lower, yet Patrick O'Sullivan is a plus-4. O'Sullivan is a lock for 60 points and should flirt with 70.

Michal Handzus, the subject of today's poll, has five points in five games and is a plus-1.

Peter Budaj managed to grab the win last night, which should be enough to earn him the next start.

Jonathan Toews has no goals and three assists in six games this season so far. He is currently off the Kane line and Kris Versteeg is on it.

Marek Zidlicky is targetting Thursday to make his Wild debut.

With Bobby Holik now out with a broken finger for three weeks, and Rolston already out with a sprained ankle, the door opens wide for Petr Vrana, who will now see top six minutes. If you are hurting up front and need a depth guy, Vrana is worth a two-week pickup. The Devils recalled Pierre-Luc Letourneau-LeBlond. Unless your fantasy league gives points for number of letters in a name, this guy should not be owned.

Sheldon Souray (leg bruise) is doubtful for tomorrow. Sam Gagner, however, should return to the lineup.

Henrik Zetterberg did some light skating yesterday, but is still doubtful for Wednesday as he did not do any stops for fear of reinjuring his groin.

Carolina has assigned Zach Boychuk to his junior club. Next year, with better luck in the injury department, he should make the team.

The Rangers have signed Devin Didiomete as a free agent, likely to help Hartford in the toughness department. I'm not sure why Calgary let him go, or why the Blue Jackets didn't sign him for Syracuse.

Jason Arnott is expected back for Thursday's contest.

The Flyers have sent Steve Downie and Jared Ross to the Phantoms of the AHL.

Darcy Hordichuk, VAN, will miss games this week with a sprained knee.

The Caps signed goaltender Braden Holtby to a three-year entry-level deal. They also recalled Tyler Sloan from Hershey.

The Blues play three games in four nights this weekend, so look for Ben Bishop to get into a game.

Tim Connolly still has yet to skate. He won't be back in game action this week.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – Thanks for Vejmelkmories

Elizabeth and Lewis reunite to bring you all the latest fantasy news and strategy, such as how our siblings would fare if called on to fill our roles like Owen Sillinger did for bro Cole. Then it’s onto news including coverage of the postponed CGY/LAK game and defensive injuries piling up in MIN and putting some strain on Gustavsson’s performance. Injuries and outjuries include a pair of goalies returning to their teams in Ingram and Shesterkin, as well as how Monahan’s wrist injury opens the door for big minutes for Fantilli. Finally, the pair touch on Voronkov and PLD’s hot streaks, and discuss John Carlson’s rollercoaster in light of Chychrun’s production.

Keeping Karlsson: Tuch Hunch

On this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast mega-show, Elan and Brian tour every team, ranking a slate of the least bad goalies, noticing the wind in some Red Wings’ and Stars’ sails, dangling snoozer status above a pair of commonly rostered power-play quarterbacks, and rushing or strolling, accordingly, to some skaters on the up and up.
