 Frolik

Every Wednesday this summer, I will bring you a sleeper to watch for the 2009-2010 season (and potentially beyond). The players will be released in no particular order, and each article will contain lots of fantasy-relevant information. I will refrain from picking sleepers that have already shown glimpses of breaking out in the past – players like Anze Kopitar, Brent Burns, Wojtek Wolski, and so on. I will also avoid talking about obvious sleepers like TJ Oshie, Drew Doughty and Steve Stamkos. I’ll go a bit beneath the surface for some sleepers that you may have not thought about.

Zzzzzzz… June 17, 2009

The Pens have signed Goligoski to a three-year deal worth $5.5 million. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I believe this deal is a one-way contract. What great news for his fantasy owners. I anticipate about 15 points in the first half, as Gonchar-Letang man the top PP, but 25 points in the second half [...]

A couple of weeks ago in my Projections column, I mentioned something which was commonly known as the “magical fourth year”. This week I plan on de-bunking or confirming the myth with stats to see if there really is such a thing as the “magical fourth year”.

A few weeks ago I was asked to list my Top-10 Keeper League Goalie Prospects in the DobberForums. Since then, I’ve taken some more time to expand the list to include 50 total prospects. In this two-part series, we’ll take an in-depth look at the Top-30 prospects for fantasy keeper leagues, along with ten goalies I consider “off the grid” and ten more you shouldn’t touch with…well…how about a ten-foot pole?

Mr. and Mrs. Malkin bad luck, June 15, 2009

By |2009-06-15T07:57:14-04:00June 15th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

There will be no morning ramblings on the morning of Tuesday, June 16, but I will be back around in the afternoon to post thoughts on any current hockey events.  Arizona bankruptcy court has rejected Jim Balsillie's play at buying and moving a team, citing time constraints as the main reason it wasn't feasible. If [...]

Crosby snub? June 14, 2009

French version up.  One small change to the Prospects Report - we added a pick for 112 in the Mock. That's uploaded now. Sorry about that, fortunately, it only affects the handful of people who have uploaded so far.  Fantasy Prospects Report - fully updated and available for download now (English only).  The update to [...]

The Q Connection

Three players, three different positions, the same junior league. A trio of French-Canadian players drafted and developed by the Pittsburgh Penguins were key to their first Stanley Cup since the early 90s, and each had their own special motivation.

With the draft coming up, most people tend to focus on who is being drafted and have considerably less knowledge about who is doing the drafting. I plan to single out the decision makers on each team and see how they've done recently. We'll focus on the most recent drafts (2005-2008) only. The teams are presented in alphabetical order with four articles each to be published prior to the draft. Please note: This is not an assessment of each team's current prospects but an examination of the people currently doing the drafting and how well each of those people have done in recent drafts.

Hrkac the Circus!! June 13, 2009

Washington prospect goalie Michal Neuvirth was the AHL's Calder Cup MVP. Man, the Neuvirth vs. Varlamov battle has been everything we hoped it would be a couple of years ago. Varlamov still has the edge as the next starter, but - don't count out Neuvirth. I put the Cup-related ramblings in its own article, found here [...]
