Dadonov Drama – July 13, 2009

Dobber Sports

2009-07-13

I have some things to attend to personally that will wipe out my entire morning (July 14), so the ramblings won’t begin until the afternoon. Ramblings don’t really start rolling until the afternoon anyway.

Comcast Sportsnet is reporting that Chicago GM Dale Tallon has been fired and that Stan Bowman will take over as GM. Given the team that Tallon built, that’s a horrible decision if true. I don’t care how many RFA screwups he did. Now Bowman will take glory of a Cup or two, and likely several trips to the final four.

The Coyotes have traded Enver Lisin to the Rangers for Lauri Korpikoski. Korpikoski has established himself as a solid NHL checker who can chip in some offense. Something that the ‘Yotes need. Phoenix is still crowded up front, but they will make room for this guy on their fourth line. They wouldn’t have made a lot of room for the speedy Lisin. He will be a depth player in New York, capable of subbing in on a scoring line when someone (and I’m not saying any names, but it rhymes with Chaborik) gets injured. Lisin’s arrival further hurts Grachev’s odds of making the team.

The Ducks have signed James Wisniewski to a contract. He’s the No.3 guy on the power play, but he is too fragile to play enough games to get past 45 points. Prove me wrong Jimmy!

The Rangers have signed Ryan Callahan. He is a good dark horse for 55 this year.

Interesting signings: Atlanta signs Anthony Stewart and Noah Welch. Both have careers that need turning around. Welch replaces Kwiatkowski.

No shock here. The Devils made Jacques Lemaire their head coach again. Sutter had a more aggressive system, so while I don’t think the likes of Zach Parise will see his production go down…I don’t see it surging upwards any further either. Just my first reaction.

The Habs made a minor signing – Swede Andreas Engqvist, a three-year, two-way deal. Engqvist will never be a top sixer if he makes the NHL (which won’t happen this year).

The Bruins have signed undrafted rearguard Zach McKelvie to a one-year deal. All I know from his stats is that he loves to shoot the puck. I don’t think you’ll see him in the NHL this year for more than a cup of coffee.

A great video piece by Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe on Joe Colborne’s development camp.

John Glennon of the Tennessean is comparing 6-6 Nordic goalie Anders Lindback to Pekka Rinne in this article.

GM Ray Shero to the Gazette on Letang and Goligoski: “Letang has shown potential to become an elite two-way player and is the team’s only defenseman who is a right-handed shot. No matter who he and Alex Goligoski, 23, play with, they will see their roles increase, Shero said. Goligoski played 45 regular-season games and two playoff with the Penguins but spent significant time in the minor leagues, mostly because he had a two-way contract and did not need to clear waivers to move between the NHL and the American Hockey League. “Letang and Goligoski will be ready to take on more of a role,” Shero said. “Letang has the ability to play against top players with his strength and skating.””

Evgeni Dadonov’s KHL coach has declared that he will not release Dadonov to North America and the team will take this to the KHL if Dadonov did indeed sign with the Panthers, which has not been made official as of yet. There will be more on this situation later this week I am sure.
