It’s probably fitting that Marion Gaborik was born on February 14th.

Like St. Valentine’s Day, he is a player that many love, but many others only love to hate him. Talented but fragile, Gaborik is a frustrating fantasy player, but as a collective, we poolies can’t ever seem to breakup with him permanently – even if the relationship is obviously unhealthy.

The Fantasy Guide and Draft List (BUY HERE) are updated up to yesterday. Next update will be tomorrow.   Jiri Tlusty and Tyler Bozak were cut today. Also cut - Nikolai Kulemin and Carl Gunnarsson. Tlusty should be ashamed of himself - the Jiri who played in February and March should have been the Jiri [...]

Monday night, Dobber passed up the opportunity to participate in the Y! Friends and Family draft, so I had the privilege in taking Dobber’s spot in the league. I’ll recap the draft along with my overall thoughts about how the draft went round-by-round and hopefully take on some opinions as to what you think I can do to better represent our DobberNation community. WARNING: This is quite a long read, so if you just want to view the team just fast forward to the last page of the column.

Thanks to some great pre-season coverage by the NHL Network over the last week, I was able decipher a handful of goalies that are already heating up for a red-hot start to the regular season. Although these exhibition games were meaningless in the standings and filled with prospects and rusty veterans, things like positioning, body movement and rebound control still reveal a lot when it comes to how a goalie might start the regular season.

There are eight or nine situations around the league that have a pair of established star forwards on the first line and a spot up for grabs. Needless to say, if a player with any skill can grab a hold of that spot, he’s in for a huge jump in production.  Let’s take a look.

DobberHockey Top 10 prospects – pre-season update

Taking nine players from the DobberHockey Top 10 Prospects list, and tossing in goalie Simeon Varlamov...let's take a look at how camp is progressing.

1) John Tavares - New York Islanders

He has only played two pre-season games but Tavares has a long way to go. He appears lost on the ice at times and although he clearly belongs in the NHL, he is not close to his upside as a first-line center. He has scored one routine assist in two games. It's very early but it looks like it's going to take some time for him to adapt. Expect a season similar to Steve Stamkos' rookie campaign. Tavares' Calder chances will depend on how quickly he adapts to the NHL game and how often he scores once he does. Tavares is handicapped terribly with an incredible lack of offensive support. Tavares should score at least 45 points.
