Curious if the same group of dissenters here on DobberHockey and on Twitter are laughing at me quite as much when I say this again: "I would rather own Malkin over Stamkos in a keeper league - it's not even close".   The rest did Geno a world of good - eight points in [...]

In what has to be one of the most interesting goalie dilemmas of the season, the Philadelphia Flyers are currently stuck with three goalies on their active roster. Russian rookie Sergei Bobrovsky, wily veteran Brian Boucher and the rehabbing Michael Leighton all have something to prove right now, which makes for quite the interesting fantasy predicament.

Interesting analysis by Fear the Fin. He takes a look at Sharks defensemen and what percentage of the faceoffs they are out for are in the defensive zone. Justin Braun leads all Sharks defensemen in the category. Considering he has been an offensive force for the team, the fact that he is doing it [...]

Goldie Says: Report is up on Lawson's NHL debut. Impressive, but smoked in the shootout. I discussed Mike Smith's rise in value last week due to refined technique and Ellis' struggles. Since then he's been a major factor in TB's last two wins.   Paul Stastny will play today.   The Sens have recalled Mike Brodeur to replace an ailing [...]

Sergei Kostitsyn has an eight game point streak going for the Preds.   Marty Erat is flying right now for the Preds – he looks to have shaken the rust off from some early season injury troubles. He’s got 10 points in his past eight games.   Shea Weber has points in four consecutive [...]

A Look Back, Part II

It’s been humbling looking back at some of the advice I’ve given. While some of it has been good – especially in Part I last week – this week I’m noticing more misses.

Looking back and re-assessing your judgment of players is a great exercise because it helps you adjust your evaluation skills. You see signs that you missed that would have told you a player was better than you thought, and you see which traits attracted you to a player like a moth to the light.

Here’s a look back (chronologically) at some more players I’ve written about in the last year, and how good my assessment was.

Santa Hockey

Season’s Greetings everyone!!

Last week was a marginal improvement over my debut, as I managed to split my picks down the middle. This week I’m looking to one-up that & continue my upward trajectory; hopefully surpassing the  50/50 barrier this time around. This will be the last time you hear from me until New Year’s Weekend, so here’s to wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and an opportunity to spend some time at home with your loved one, hopefully fitting in a little extra hockey while you’re at it! Can’t go wrong with that!

Now let’s get to it...

Looking Ahead – Week 11

A tough decision can be made easier with these charts showing you the best five and worst five schedules for upcoming seven-day periods. Some of you used them last year but for the benefit of new readers here is a refresher. The number next to the team indicates the 'multiplier' to use on a player's point-per-game pace to give you an idea how many points to expect for that week.

Goldie Says: I wrote a doozy on Steve Mason's struggles and how he can improve. Time to get him a sports psychologist coach. My eyes are also locked onto Mike Smith - his shootout win over ATL plus Nabby rumors could push him to perform very well over the next week.    Jeremy Morin was sent back down by Chicago, but [...]

Heading into play last night, the Devils were only three points up on the cellar dwelling New York Islanders. If that isn't bad enough, the Isles have played one less game than New Jersey.
