Last week, Brent Lemon did a column on Martin Brodeur, using some of the work found in the book “HockeyNomics” by Darcy Norman. The column created quite a buzz and there was a lot of interest in this book. The good people at OverTime Books are giving away one of these books per day [...]

Joffrey Lupul has been assigned to Syracuse for conditioning. He was held without a point last night.   Craig Anderson (groin) has been placed on IR and will be out until at least Friday   Kristian Huselius (high ankle sprain) is still not skating according to the Distpatch.   Ondrej Pavelec's numbers, last four [...]

Your award winners (Hart, Norris, Vezina, Selke, etc) at this point in the season are...   Nick Backstrom on Semin: "I don't know if I've seen anyone more skilled than him, to be honest with you. He can shoot from every angle. That's pretty impressive. I'm just glad he's on our team."   Uh… [...]

Saturday’s Picks – November 27th

Happy Belated Thanksgiving to our southern neighbours. Two weeks ago, I managed to squeak out 6 of 11 winners including the Nashville-Chicago tie.  Thunder managed 5 of 6, and had the Sabres upset over the Caps, so not a horrible week after all.  Great debut article from Anthony last week, great rationale behind his choices but at a quick glance it may have been a rough night.  I could add something witty here, but I’d rather just stick to hockey!  Let’s get started.

Good Bloodlines

One of the things you’ll sometimes hear scouts say is that a player has “good bloodlines.”

It means that a prospect is the son of a former NHLer or pro hockey player and the phrase implies that hockey talent is hereditary and passed on genetically.

Looking Ahead – Week 8

A tough decision can be made easier with these charts showing you the best five and worst five schedules for upcoming seven-day periods. Some of you used them last year but for the benefit of new readers here is a refresher. The number next to the team indicates the 'multiplier' to use on a player's point-per-game pace to give you an idea how many points to expect for that week.

Saturday's ramblings will be posted at 11AM EST. Sorry for the delay!   Nikita Filatov's days in Columbus are numbered, in my opinion. He isn't fitting in, and the Blue Jackets could use him as trade bait for a legitimate top four/five defenseman as the trade deadline approaches.   Is it time to cut [...]

Fantasy Indicators of Success: Centres of Attention

This is the final installment of the Fantasy Indicators of Success series. This week we take a look at the all important Centre position.

Nearly identical to the Wingers, Centres require top six ice time and first unit power play minutes to separate the men from the boys. Some Centres are shoot first, ask questions later types, like Stamkos, Malkin, Jeff Carter, Eric Staal and the new Crosby. Others are the pass first types like Henrik Sedin, the old Crosby and Backstrom. Obviously the shots on goal statistic will not be all that relevant for those pivots that prefer passing to shooting.
