It’s always nice when one of your preseason dark horse picks breaks through with an elite season to propel your team to the top while making you look like smart along the way. Who Takes over for Martin Brodeur in New Jersey?

Wedgewood

Scott Wedgewood is one of a few young goalies hoping for a chance to succeed Brodeur in New Jersey.

When a player involved in ‘greatest of all-time’ conversation occupies the No. 1 goaltending spot, it's usually bad news for those below him on the organizational depth chart. Over the past three seasons, New Jersey Devils goaltenders outside the 79-year-old tandem of Martin Brodeur and Johan Hedberg have combined for just four NHL games played.

Anthony Lancione lets us know how the games on Saturday will play out.

En fuego! Good afternoon poolies. Hope you’ve been following this steamboat the last few weeks, as we at DobberHockey have been On the Money! Last columns I followed up a 5-for-6 week by running off with a clean sweep, correctly nailing 11 of my last 12 picks! Last week Marty started off in a small hole before nailing all 4 night caps to continue the strong momentum forward.

Lets try to keep this hot streak rolling and get right into the six-pack slate for this Saturday.

  *   Center Tyler Johnson made his NHL debut for the Lightning last night – no points in 11 minutes of ice time. He was a prolific WHL scorer and has started to do the same at the AHL level, too.   Alex Killorn didn’t have any points, but he played over 18 minutes. [...]

Dealing With Expensive Slumps

Shea Weber USA Today

Eric Daoust on how to work around expensive players who aren't playing up to expectations.

All hockey players have slumps from time to time. As frustrating as it is for the player himself, it will really mess with the emotions of his fantasy owners. We live in the moment so it is often difficult to look past a recent string of blank stat lines and focus on the bigger picture. In salary cap leagues this can be even more frustrating when this player has an expensive cap hit.

A perfect example this year is Shea Weber.

Rookie Tournament results - best fantasy value - Galchenyuk vs. Yakupov, Huberdeau vs. Tarasenko

So it’s here. The final matchup of the Cage Match Rookie Tournament is finally upon us. Only two remain. Are they the best rookies? That’s debatable but according to you as of right now they are. Only time will tell the rest as we push forward there is still another half of a half-season (which is normally a quarter but not this year) to be played so there is still time for these rookies to make an early impact and to change their narrative. Of course, for the purposes of this tournament time has run out for 14 competitors. Let’s see who remains:
