Here's the latest injury news from across the NHL! If you're looking for information about a specific player and don't see their name in this article, there probably haven't been any significant updates about their progress since our last article. If you ever need injury updates for a specific player, shoot me a message on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza.

Jakob Chychrun – The Coyotes defenseman is expected to start practicing with the team this week. He's working his way back from offseason wrist surgery, as well as a procedure to remove bone spurs from his ankle.

Nick Schmaltz – The 26-year-old forward sustained an upper-body injury in Arizona's season opener and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Despite playing for a bottom-of-the-barrel team, Schmaltz scored at a 77-point pace last year.

Matt Grzelcyk – The Bruins defenseman underwent shoulder surgery in early June. He's been a full participant in recent practices and his status was recently upgraded to day-to-day. Don't be surprised if he returns Thursday against the Ducks or Saturday against the Wild.

Brad Marchand – In late May, the Bruins winger underwent surgery on both of his hips – a procedure which came with a six-month recovery timeline (meaning a return in late November). Surprisingly, Marchand was on the ice for part of Boston's practice on Sunday. It's an encouraging step forward and suggests that he's ahead of schedule, but it doesn't mean his return is imminent. He's going to need a few full practices to get used to skating mechanics with his repaired hips. The medical team will also need to monitor his status as he ups the intensity of his skating sessions, so I'd say he's still weeks away from a return.

Ondrej KaseThe Hurricanes forward is being evaluated for a possible concussion. It's a tough break for a player with a lengthy history of head injuries. There's no timetable for his return but I expect the team will prioritize his long-term health as they evaluate when/if he should come back.

Gabriel Landeskog – Colorado's captain had knee surgery on Tuesday and will be sidelined for 12 weeks.

Patrik Laine – On October 13th, the Blue Jackets announced that Laine would be sidelined for three-to-four weeks with an elbow sprain. Although that timetable hasn't changed, he's been skating on his own and taking light shots recently. In Laine's absence, Gustav Nyquist has seen time on the top line with Johnny Gaudreau and Boone Jenner.

Jakub Vrana – Missed Monday's game and Tuesday's practice due to personal reasons and there's no timeline for his return.

Tyler Bertuzzi – On Monday, we learned Bertuzzi would be sidelined four-to-six weeks with an upper-body injury. In Bertuzzi's absence, Dominik Kubalik has been promoted to the top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. Kubalik should be a great addition to your fantasy roster in the short term.

Brandon Montour – Is dealing with an upper-body injury that isn't expected to keep him sidelined long term. Although Montour won't play against the Flyers on Wednesday, he was on the ice for morning skate and should be a full participant in Florida's next practice – which suggests he'll be back very soon.

Aaron Ekblad – The Panthers defenseman will be placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) with a lower-body injury. Being placed on LTIR means a player has to miss 10 games and 24 days of action, so I believe the earliest Ekblad can return is November 12th against the Oilers – but that would depend on his health. Fortunately, this isn't a season-ending injury and seems to be more of a short term (i.e., at least three weeks) issue. Gustav Forsling should see an increased role while Ekblad is sidelined.

Alex Iafallo – Was placed on Injured Reserve (IR) after sustaining a lower-body injury during Monday's game against Detroit. A player on IR must stay sidelined for at least a week, which means Iafallo won't be available for LA's next two games. I believe he'd be eligible to come off IR for the team's clash with Tampa on October 25th, but that would depend on the status of his injury.

Jordan Greenway – Was skating on the second line with Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Foligno during Wednesday's practice, which suggests he's getting close to a return.

Mike MathesonOn October 13th, the Canadiens announced Matheson would be sidelined for eight weeks with an abdominal muscle strain. Matheson's regular season debut with the Canadiens will have to wait, but the team's young blueliners have done well in the expanded roles that have been thrust upon them. In particular, Kaiden Guhle has been outstanding and could be a dark horse in the Calder race.

Mark BorowieckiMissed Tuesday's clash with the Kings because of an illness and is officially day-to-day.

Vitaly Kravtsov – Has recovered from the upper-body injury that kept him sidelined recently and is officially cleared to play. However, coach Gerard Gallant likes how the Rangers have been playing and doesn't want to mess with the lineup too much, so Kravtsov may be a healthy scratch when New York hosts the Sharks on Thursday.

Rasmus RistolainenIs dealing with a lower-body injury but is currently travelling with the team, which suggests he's close to making his season debut.

Cam Atkinson – An upper-body injury has kept Atkinson out of Philly's first three games of the season. He hasn't been practicing with the team and isn't on the current road trip, so he's unlikely to play in Florida on Wednesday, or Nashville on Saturday.

Anthony Cirelli – Had shoulder surgery in the summer and is expected to return in late-November/early-December. He's been skating often in recent weeks, but hasn't been taking contact.

Jake Muzzin – Was placed on Injured Reserve (IR) with a neck injury. The transaction requires him to miss at least seven days of action. Since he sustained the injury on Monday, I assume the clock starts ticking on Tuesday, meaning he's slated to miss Toronto's next three games –  against Dallas, Winnipeg, and Vegas.

Matt MurrayThe Leafs netminder was recently placed on long-term injured reserve with an adductor injury that's expected to keep him out for at least four weeks. In Murray's absence, Ilya Samsonov will step into a starting role and Erik Källgren will play backup.

Timothy Liljegren – Had hernia surgery before training camp and is expected to be sidelined until mid-November. Liljegren has been skating with the team recently but hasn't been taking contact. Since he's on LTIR, he isn't eligible to return until November 5th at the earliest.

Connor BrownThe Capitals forward is out long-term with a lower-body injury and is meeting with doctors to determine whether surgery is necessary.
