Rosters have been finalized, games have been played, and it's the most wonderful time of the year!

We had three thrillers on Tuesday so let's dive into these teams.

Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers

Frank Nazar scored the first goal of the season on a beautiful breakaway attempt. He picked right back up from what he was doing in the preseason and at the World Championship back in May. His line mates, Teuvo Teravainen and Tyler Bertuzzi, got in on the fun and each had an assist on the tally.

Then early in the second period, the trio put another one in the net, but this time it was Teravainen's turn to light the lamp. Each player finished with two points and skated over 10 minutes five on five with each other. All three of them were on Chicago's top power play unit as well, along with Connor Bedard and Sam Rinzel.

Bedard's running mates five-on-five were Ryan Donato and Andre Burakovsky and while Bedard and Donato looked in sync, Burakovsky was playing it safe. Bedard looked fast and got better as the game went along.

Lukas Reichel was a healthy scratch, but if Burakovsky can't find a rhythm on the top line, Reichel will get a shot to prove himself one last time or he'll find himself playing for another organization.

On the Panthers side, the line of Brad Marchand, Sam Bennett, and Carter Verhaeghe dominated statistically, generating an 80.6% Corsi For. Even though they ended up a minus-one, they carried the mail the entire night five-on-five.

They also gave us an interesting power play line, using Marchand, Bennett, and Sam Reinhart up front and two defensemen (Seth Jones and Aaron Ekblad). That left Verhaeghe on the second unit, which had four forwards (it was the aforementioned Verhaeghe) and they were able to put the puck behind Spencer Knight so there may not be any adjustments yet, but his man advantage ice time may take a hit this season.

Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers 

The Penguins were able to start the year with a 3-0 victory over the Blueshirts. With Bryan Rust on IR, 22-year-old Ville Koivunen got to ride shotgun with Sidney Crosby. They played a little together at the end of last season and if he can find some chemistry with Sid before Rust gets back, they'll have a decision to make. 

The player of the game (besides Arturs Silovs) was Justin Brazeau. He signed as a free agent during the offseason after being dealt to the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline last year. He started on a line with Evgeni Malkin and Anthony Mantha and finished the game with two goals. His second marker was an empty netter, but it's a strong vote of confidence that the coaches had him out there to protect a 1-0 lead with two minutes left. Brazeau is a big body that can create space so if he sticks with what looks to be a re-energized Malkin and a speedy Mantha, he is a player to keep tabs on.

On the Rangers side, Will Cuylle played over 19 minutes and was lined up with Mika Zibanejad and JT Miller. With the peripheral stats that Cuylle brings, (he was credited with eight hits!) he could be a great roto winger and help provide some numbers across the board.

Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings

No real surprise or new line combos between these two teams.

Martin Necas is in the final year of his contract and truly betting on himself this year to cash in during the summer. Playing with Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Maker will help him pad his numbers, but he is a lethal player in his own right. He tallied one on the power play and then sniped another one home after MacKinnon made a play to draw defenders in and left Necas alone at the hash mark.

It is pretty incredible to see Gabriel Landeskog playing meaningful hockey again, but I think we can temper expectations, even if he is dropping the mitts during preseason. He hasn't played in the last three regular seasons, so he is obviously going to have to work his way back into a game flow, but the game is a lot faster and the Avs have a number of players ahead of him when it comes to offensive minutes. Landy's emotion and dedication to the game can't be questioned but expect him to be a middling winger this season.

The Kings somehow kept a third jersey reveal quiet all offseason and surprised everyone when they debuted a new sweater. Maybe the team did that because they knew they would be coming out of the gate flat footed. No one stood out, but some teams need a few games to shake off the training camp rust and that is okay.
