Quick

After successfully picking all six winners in my last column, I'm on quite the roll hitting my picks at nearly a 70% clip over the past two months. Hopefully I can keep it rolling in the last full Saturday Evening slate of games for this 2010/2011 regular season. I hope you've enjoyed this weekly piece (and have been riding my hot streak since the last month). This weekend will surely play a role in helping you determine which players you will be targeting in your playoff drafts early next week.

  • Stats as of Friday morning
  • Winning % in last 24 games = 67%
  • Previous Week Record= Perfect->> 6-0!!!
  • For ProLine Purposes= 5-1
  • (Chose correct team (Det) to beat Leafs in SO, but instead beat them in a close, 1 goal affair + EN)

Washington @ Florida (7:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pools

The Sleeping Giants have awoken. The defending East champ Capitals along with their captain & hero, Alexander the Great, are lighting it up at the perfect time, skipping past the 'on-cruise control' Flyers right back to the top of the East.

Washington has won four in a row and has only lost two games in regulation since February. Add in a single OT Loss and the Caps have mustered an astonishing 33 of a possible 36 points over that span! Ovechkin seems reinvigorated after spending a ten day stretch off the ice in late March, with a three game goal scoring streak intact as well as eight points in four games since his return. A stark contrast would have to be the host Panthers who have been reeling it with the best of them, losing 9 straight. What's worse you ask? The fact that they have failed to score more than twice in any of the last eight! This one is a walk.

Pick

Washington – Visitor Win – V(ProLine)

NY Islanders @ Philadelphia (7:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pools

The Flyers stumble into this one having dropped their past four & seven of the past nine contests. Danny Briere will be a game-time decision similar to many superstars league-wide being given precautionary resting measures in this final week. Sergei Bobrovsky has all but been given the official word from peter Laviolette that he will be taking the reigns for the playoffs after a rotation cycle lasting the past couple months. Look for him to finish strong assuring his team that the coach has made the right decision going into Round 1. The Islanders have been playing out the string for a while now. However, if there's one team their goons will want to match themselves up with, it would be against the original bullies of Broad Street. Go pack your bags and expect a rough and tumble matchup.

Pick

Philadelphia – Home Win – H(ProLine)

Tampa Bay @ Carolina (7:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pools

The Lightning will have a perfect opportunity to play spoilers to their divisional foes this evening! However look for Rolly to have his 41-year-old body granted one last rest before the big show begins. The Hurricanes have also been playing some inspired hockey as of late, between several solid performances from the heart of the franchise in Staal and Ward. These two champions don't want to be on the outside looking in. I'm sure they would much rather keep their streak alive of rotating between making a deep run and then missing the playoffs, seeing that last year was a miss. The streak has been alive for almost a decade now and a second straight early exit would spell the end of that as well!

Nashville @ St.Louis (8:00pm ET)

By the Numbers –Frozen Pools

This should be an interesting pairing, as both Central Division rivals have been on fire as of late, despite each on contrasting sides of the playoff picture. The Preds have picking up point in all but two of their last 12 games, winning nine of them in the process.  Meanwhile the Blues have won seven of eight, scoring an astounding 24 goals over their past five games alone! Most notably, they knocked off a dime in a 10-3 shock trouncing of the Red Wings, who for the 1st time since the 80's could have easily been dubbed their old moniker, "The Dead Wings".

Pick

Tie – T(ProLine) (St.Louis in SO)

Anaheim @ Los Angeles (10:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pools

The Battle of Malibu Beach the California Sun shapes up to be yet another intense divisional matchup with Anaheim still not technically having clinched a playoff spot yet. The Ducks offense have been lighting it up recently with the Ageless Wonder, Teemu Selanne and Gold Medal Olympian Corey Perry saving their best for last down the stretch! Both have been, along with Ray Emery as of late, instrumental reasons as to why the Ducks are not in fact polishing their golf clubs for next week. Perry has given Steve Stamkos a real reality check in the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy race, which all of a sudden is no longer a race. The NHL's 2nd worst SOG allower (the Kings) face off against the 5th best. So look for Quick/Bernier to be much busier than Mr. Emery.

Pick

Anaheim – Visitor Win – V(ProLine)

Phoenix @ San Jose (10:30pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pools

Two weeks ago, the Sharks visited the desert and I successfully predicted a road win. This weekend the Yotes' make the return trip to the Shark Tank where I expect no different on home ice. San Jose will surely be looking to finish off their season heading with their confidence as high as possible. Finally Joe Pavelski's ridiculous streak has come to an end where he averaged two points per game over a crazy 3-1/2 week stretch. Now its time for the Big line to get into the action, as this team will have yet another crack at numbing their choke artist naysayers. On the other side, the Quebec City Phoenix Coyotes will also be looking to step on the peddle a little bit now heading into the playoffs after vehemently proving that last year's Cinderella playoff berth was no fluke, despite a 7-10 point overall drop-off.

Pick

San Jose – Home Team Win — H(ProLine)
