My first month of picks for DobberHockey is in the books, and I’ve had my ups and downs. The last two weeks have seen my record fluctuate back and forth, as last week’s even 3-3 showing closes the month of November with my overall record sitting at a decent 13-11. Not horrible, but not great, either.

However, still tons of hockey to be played this season, and plenty of good chances to make some coin. As is the standard for Saturday NHL scheduling, a loaded board of 12 games awaits us today.

Philadelphia Flyers @ Pittsburgh Penguins – Pick: Penguins

There’s no getting around the fact the Penguins got absolutely pumped by the Colorado Avalanche in their last game, but Pittsburgh has still been playing better of late after a relatively disappointing start to the season. Despite being without No. 1 netminder, Matt Murray over recent weeks, the Pens have been relatively solid. They've been getting consistent performances from Murray’s fill-in, Casey DeSmith.

Pittsburgh plays host to a Flyers club that finds itself sitting in dead last in the Eastern Conference with only 10 wins. The result of which cost longtime front-office exec and general manager, Ron Hextall his job earlier in the week. As heads continue to roll in the City of Brotherly Love, you can expect Philly to continue to be a complete doormat. The team has lost two in a row including a complete meltdown to the Ottawa Senators earlier in the week that saw the Flyers blow a late two-goal lead.

Sprinkle in that Philadelphia has only two wins in their last 10 games against Sidney Crosby and Co., and this looks like a great spot for the Pens to be picking up two points.

Chicago Blackhawks @ Nashville Predators – Pick: Predators

Nashville might be struggling to score right now, having tallied only four total goals over their last three contests, but thankfully for the Preds, they host a Blackhawks squad that has allowed the second most goals against in the Western Conference this year at a whopping 96.

The Preds have been sputtering of late, but their 9-5-0 home record should squash any reservations you might have about throwing a bet down on them this week. Let’s not overthink this one. Nashville is one of the best teams going and the Hawks are a shell of their former selves – not to mention its one of the worst road teams in the NHL this season with only one win in their last 10 games away from home.

Chicago is awful and betting on Nashville at home is really never a bad idea. Don’t miss the opportunity for an easy win here, hammer the Predators and thank me later.

Columbus Blue Jackets @ New York Islanders – Pick: Over 6

When two teams get together that both score and allow goals at will. Betting the over just makes way too much sense. Such is the case the matchup between the Blue Jackets and Islanders, two clubs that regularly engage in high-scoring games.

The total has gone over the number in six of the last nine games between the two Eastern Conference foes, and I expect yet another goalfest Saturday in New York. The total in this game could easily be 6.5, so jump on it early as it currently sits at only 6. This one goes over and it happens early.
