Daily Fantasy Saturday: Stars Four-Man Stack

Stephen Dotzel

2022-03-26

Another Saturday and another 4-3-1 stack taking home the $10,000 first place prize in the DraftKings KickSave contest. This has been the trend over the past few weeks if you're a regular reader of this article. Last week's lineup was an Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Michael Bunting, and Morgan Rielly four-player Leafs stack featuring that lethal top line and Rielly who quarterbacks that top power-play unit. The triple was Jared McCann, Jaden Schwartz, and Vince Dunn from the Kraken, who didn't light the world on fire with their fantasy scores, but their basement level price tags allowed the flexibility to afford the hefty tags on those Leafs. The one off in the lineup was Noah Hanifin who managed 21.6 DraftKings points. All in all, this lineup scored 177.70 points which was best among the 3,137 entries and pocketed a cool $10,000 for DraftKings user "DJSabres".

With more confirmation that the 4-3-1 build is what gives us the best chance to finish atop the leaderboards, I'll stick with trying to identify those stacks that can give us a chance to do so. With nine games on the schedule for tonight, we've got one of the larger Saturday slates in some time. This will give us plenty of options for stacks, so let's sift through a few I think stand out.

For another perspective, be sure to give the DraftKings DFS Player Evaluator over in the Frozen Tools a look as well. All prices are from DraftKings but plays can be applied to any site.

Four-Player Stacks under $25,000

Dallas – The top line for the Stars has been one of the most productive ones in hockey for much of the season and a matchup with a Canucks team who's lost six of eight certainly isn't a spot to shy away from. Roope Hintz ($6,500) in particular is on fire with five goals over the past three games. Stack him up with Joe Pavelski ($6,300), Jason Robertson ($6,700), and John Klingberg ($5,000) to get the type of high upside but affordable four-man stack we like to look for.

Florida – With Claude Giroux ($5,100) now in the mix and Aaron Ekblad still banged up, the Panthers have been experimenting with five forwards on their power play, which adds another boost to an already stellar top nine. Any of the five on that unit are in play for stacking purposes but one good way to make use of a four player stack but still remain under the $25,000 number is going Giroux, Aleksander Barkov ($8,800), and Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,200) from that top unit with Brandon Montour ($3,000).

Minnesota – The Wild made a few minor moves at the deadline with their skaters but the big splash came in net when they acquired Marc-Andre Fleury. In what is likely to be Fleury's team debut, I'm expecting a strong effort here from the Wild. Kirill Kaprizov ($8,300) is a lock anytime Minnesota is in consideration and with a fully correlated set of linemates in Ryan Hartman ($6,400) and Mats Zuccarello ($5,700) a stack here makes a lot of sense. Add in Jared Spurgeon ($4,400) to bring it up to a four player.

Three Player Stacks to Mix In

San Jose – After a promising start to the season the Ducks have really fallen out of the sky of late with losses in eight straight games. Right now between trades and injuries, several key players from the team's early season success will not be in the lineup which sets up as a good opportunity for the Sharks in this one. Any time a Sharks stack is in play it starts with Timo Meier ($7,300) and tonight is no different. From there the targets will be Tomas Hertl ($5,600) and one of Brent Burns ($6,000), Erik Karlsson ($5,200), or Alexander Barabanov ($2,500) to round out the stack.

Los Angeles – Picking on the Kraken has been a fairly successfully strategy in what has been a disappointing inaugural season for the club, and after trading away several starters I don't see a reason to change course. The Kings finally got Viktor Arvidsson ($6,900) back into the fold which should help lengthen the lineup a bit for a team who's been held to one goal or less in three of the past seven games. Look to stack Sean Durzi ($5,400) with Arviddson and Phillip Danault ($5,100) for a three man or pluck three from Durzi, Anze Kopitar ($6,000), Alex Iafallo ($4,400), and Adrian Kempe ($5,300).

Calgary – Coming off a stretch of mixed results the Flames have shook up the lines a bit, with Tyler Toffoli ($4,900) seeing some top line minutes at the expense of Matthew Tkachuk ($7,000). I'm not sure if that will stick but as long as does the benefit to us is that it gives us a major salary break when stacking that line. The savings of $2,100 from Tkachuk to Toffoli can be used to bolster other spots of our lineups while still being able to fit in Elias Lindholm ($7,200) or Johnny Gaudreau ($7,400) with someone like Noah Hanifin ($4,000). You can combine all these players as well for use as a four-player stack.

Cheap Power Play 1 Plugs

C – Alex Wennberg ($2,600), Nick Bonino ($2,600), Christian Dvorak ($2,900)

W – Jakub Voracek ($2,900), Colin White ($3,200), Jordan Eberle ($3,200)

D – Nick Leddy ($2,600), Erik Brannstrom ($2,700), Alex Goligoski ($3,200)

Goalie Picks

Vitek Vanecek ($8,100)

Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,300)

Jake Oettinger ($7,800)

James Reimer ($7,900)

Ville Husso ($7,600)
