Thursday NHL Props: DeBrincat and Josi Love to Shoot

It's the last big weekday slate of the week, and it's time to find some winning prop bets. There are 10 games on the NHL slate tonight, which gives us plenty of options when searching for prop bets. It can be a little time-consuming to study every matchup, but it needs to be done to give us the best chance to find some winners. The research is done, the picks are in, and now it's time to watch some hockey!

Below, I highlight three player props that stood out to me for tonight's games. Our record this season stands at (4-2) after going (2-1) last Thursday, hopefully, we can sweep the board tonight.

Alex DeBrincat – Over 3.5 Shots (-103)

Alex Debrincat and the Ottawa Senators are hosting the Minnesota Wild tonight, and they hope to keep their undefeated home record intact. The Wild enter tonight's game giving up the seventh most shots in the league, allowing an average of 33.8 shots per game. A reason why they are giving up so many shots is the number of penalties they take. They are averaging 12.2 penalty minutes per game, that's the fourth most in the NHL. DeBrincat logged 6:48 minutes on the powerplay in his last game against the Dallas Stars, he ended the game with a total of seven shots. If the Wild continue to take a lot of penalties, DeBrincat could see a ton of powerplay minutes just like he did against the Stars. On the other hand, the opponent doesn't seem to matter that much to DeBrincat. He has started the year with 28 shots in six games, an average of 4.67 shots per game. He is also attempting a lot of shots, 7.32 per game, which is a good sign. And one last little confidence booster: he has recorded five or more shots in three of his four home games this season. This looks like a very good matchup for DeBrincat to rack up the shots.

Roman Josi – Over 3.5 Shots (-115)

If Roman Josi doesn't love to shoot the puck, then no one does. Josi has the second most shot attempts in the NHL, second only to Timo Meier, and Meier has played two more games. Josi is averaging 10 shot attempts per game; that's right, 10 per game. Ridiculous. Not only is he attempting a lot of shots, but he's also recording quite a few actual shots as well. Josi is currently averaging 4.42 shots per game, just under half of his attempts find the net. In his three games in Nashville this year he is averaging 6.33 shots per game, and he recorded seven shots in each of his last two home games. Josi and the Nashville Predators are hosting the St. Louis Blues tonight, who will be playing their second game of a back-to-back. Even though the Blues will be playing their second game in as many nights, I don't think the opponent really matters with this bet. Josi has been throwing the puck on net every chance he gets, and even more so at home, look for him to do more of the same tonight.

Leon Draisaitl – Over 0.5 Powerplay Points (-120)

Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers are visiting the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. The biggest reason for making this play is how much time the Blackhawks spend shorthanded every game. The Blackhawks are currently averaging 7:23 minutes per game shorthanded, the third most in the NHL. That's a lot of time to be killing penalties when playing the Oilers, whose powerplay is running at 31.8%, the fourth best powerplay currently. Draisaitl has recorded five powerplay points in seven games so far this season. Draisaitl failed to record a powerplay point in his last game, but he hasn't gone back-to-back games without one yet this season, which looks promising for tonight. Also, in his three games versus the Blackhawks last season, he recorded three powerplay points. I think the Blackhawks are going to struggle to handle the speed and skill of the Oilers which will result in them taking a lot of penalties, which can only be a good thing for Draisaitl.
