Thursday NHL Props: Tkachuk and Toffoli Providing The Shots

Will McLean

2022-11-03

It is Thursday once again, and we are going to find a few prop bets that will win us some money. We have a huge slate of NHL games tonight with 13, which gives us ample opportunity to find some winners. With how many games there are tonight you must take the time to study each game thoroughly, and hopefully putting in that time will give us the best chance to pick winners. The research is done, the picks are in, and now it's time to watch some hockey!

Below, I highlight three player props that stood out to me for tonight's games. Our record this season stands at (7-2) after going (3-0) last Thursday, hopefully, we can sweep the board again tonight.

Matthew Tkachuk – Over 3.5 Shots (-140)

Tkachuk is continuing to prove that he is a star even though the Florida Panthers are off to a somewhat slow start. Tkachuk and the Panthers are visiting the San Jose Sharks tonight for the second game of their four-game road trip. The Sharks are averaging 30.9 shots against per game, the tenth fewest in the NHL, but this pick isn't about the Sharks, it's about Tkachuk. So far this season, Tkachuk is averaging exactly 5 shots per game. In his 10 games this season, he has only recorded fewer than 4 shots once, which means he's won this exact bet in all but one of his games this year. Also, he is leading the Panthers with 8.7 shot attempts per game, proving that he doesn't shy away from shooting the puck very often. Knowing that Tkachuk has won this bet in 90% of his games so far gives me all the confidence I need to place this bet.

Tyler Toffoli – Over 2.5 Shots (-133)

Toffoli started the season off a little slow with only 3 shots in his first two games combined, but since then he has rattled off six straight games with 3 or more shots. He is currently averaging 3.5 shots per game, but over his last six games, he has averaged 4.17. Toffoli and the Calgary Flames host the Nashville Predators tonight which looks like a good matchup for him. The Predators are in the middle of the pack for shots against as they currently average 32.4 shots against per game, which shouldn't worry us at all. What should really help Toffoli is how much time the Predators spend shorthanded. The Predators average 6:25 minutes shorthanded per game, the seventh most in the NHL. With Toffoli on the Flames top powerplay unit, he should get plenty of opportunities to shoot the puck tonight. I expect Toffoli to throw the puck at the net every chance he gets tonight, especially when he's on the powerplay.

Linus Ullmark – Over 28.5 Saves (-106)

Ullmark is off to an amazing start in his second season with the Boston Bruins. He is currently (7-0-0) with a save percentage of .932% and a goals against average of 2.19. If he continues to put up these types of numbers, he'll be in the discussion for the Vezina when spring rolls around.

Ullmark and the Boston Bruins are on the road tonight visiting the New York Rangers. Ullmark should be pretty busy tonight considering the Rangers average the fourth most shots per game at 36.5. The Bruins on the other hand average 33.5 shots against per game while on the road. In his seven games this season, Ullmark has recorded 29 or more saves in six of them. Knowing that Ullmark is playing a team that averages the fourth most shots per game and that he has hit this over in six of seven games, makes me very confident in this pick.
