DFS Tuesday: Rebounding Canucks and Rested Predators

As we close out November, I'll start with a review of the Vancouver Canucks' resurgence. After an 0-5-2 start that had fans – and his boss Jim Rutherford – calling for Bruce Boudreau to win OR ELSE, the team is quietly 9-5-1, actually one of the best records in the west over that span.   So, what changed? Sure, the obvious is that Thatcher Demko started out with an 0.836 save% over his first six starts, and now has a time-share in net with Spencer Martin. Over the past 2 weeks, Demko is stopping pucks at an 0.919 clip, Martin at 0.916. But surprisingly, their team defense isn't to share in this improvement – shots against averaged 31.4 for their winless start, and 34.5 in their current 5-1 recovery. Yes, it's goalkeeping that gets coaches fired, and can also save their jobs.

Offensively, the three positive changes have been Bo Horvat scoring more (17 goals), Andrei Kuzmenko hitting his stride (2 points in those first 7 goals, and minus-7 +/-, then 19 points and plus-15 in 15 games since), and JT Miller scoring 12 power play points (top-10 in NHL).

For my daily fantasy play, I'll take those three – Horvat (DraftKings $8000), Kuzmenko ($5500), and Miller ($6000) as my picks, at home against the Washington Capitals. Value-priced Tyler Myers ($2800) would add to the stack.

My secondary team for tonight is the Nashville Predators. I'll play Filip Forsberg ($6600) and top-line rookie Juuso Parssinen ($4200) against Anaheim. At goaltender – a hunch that Andrei Vasilevskiy ($7100) plays his best in a big game tonight and breaks the Bruins' 12-win home streak. The last two to complete a lineup are Mathew Barzal ($5100) and Drew Doughty ($4500).

@dokhockey, still on Twitter (but not paying Elon Musk – LOL)
