Thursday Player Props: McDavid, Verhaeghe, and Hischier In Line For High Shot Totals

It is Thursday once again, so let's find some winning NHL props. We have seven games on the NHL schedule for tonight, which should give us more than enough options to find some winning props. I've taken my time to carefully look over every matchup tonight, and I think I've found a few props that can win us some money. The research is done, the picks are in, and now it's time to watch some hockey!

Below, I highlight three player props that stood out to me for tonight's games. Our record this season stands at (21 – 9) after going (2 – 1) last Thursday, hopefully, we can sweep the board tonight!

Connor McDavid – Over 3.5 Shots (-143)

McDavid has been very good to me this season with this bet and I am hoping tonight will be more of the same. In 51 games this season McDavid has recorded 212 shots, the fifth most in the NHL, averaging 4.16 per game. Over his last 10 games, McDavid has averaged 5.4 shots per game, outperforming his season average by well over a shot per game, which makes this bet look even more intriguing. McDavid's recent jump in shot production has led to him recording four or more shots in 11 of his last 14 games and five of six road games. His ability to produce shots on the road is important considering McDavid and the Oilers are on the road tonight in Philadelphia. Speaking of the Philadelphia Flyers, they allow an average of 31.7 shots against per game, that's more than enough for McDavid to get the job done. With how much McDavid has been shooting the puck recently, and how average the Flyers are at suppressing shots, I wouldn't be surprised to see McDavid get over five shots tonight.

Carter Verhaeghe – Over 2.5 Shots (-143)

Verhaeghe has been a stud lately when it comes to winning shot bets, hopefully, he can keep that trend going tonight. So far this season Verhaeghe is averaging 3.14 shots per game and 5.44 shot attempts per game. But over his last 10 games, he is averaging 4.3 shots and 7.1 shot attempts per game, outperforming his season averages by a considerable amount. His strong play recently has led to him recording three or more shots in four straight games, nine of 10, and five straight home games. His streak at home is a confidence booster considering Verhaeghe and the Florida Panthers are hosting the San Jose Sharks tonight. The Sharks are allowing an average of 31.2 shots against per game this season, which is an average amount in the NHL. But over their last 10 games, the Sharks are allowing 35.5 shots against per game, the fourth most over that span. Also, Verhaeghe has already played the Sharks once this season and in that game, he recorded four shots. With the Sharks playing worse defense than usual, and how good Verhaeghe has been as of late, I expect Verhaeghe to get us the win tonight.

Nico Hischier – Over 2.5 Shots (-111)

Nico Hischier has been a monster on home ice this season and that's the biggest reason to make this play tonight. Hischier is averaging 3.16 shots per game, which is pretty good, but the big difference is whether he is playing at home or on the road. While playing on the road Hischier is averaging 2.74 shots per game, while on home ice he is averaging 3.54 shots per game, that's a pretty big difference. Hischier has recorded three or more shots in 10 straight home games, and four of five overall. Since Hischier and the New Jersey Devils are at home tonight against the Seattle Kraken, his play on home ice is a big boost to the confidence. Also, the Devils will be without Jack Hughes tonight, meaning Hischier should be leaned on to produce offense more than usual tonight. With how hot Hischier has been on home ice, plus the added minutes he should get with Hughes being out, look for Hischier to shoot the puck every chance he gets.
