Thursday Player Props: Hischier and Barrie For Shots; Buffalo Goaltending

It is Thursday once again, so let's find some winning NHL props. The NHL schedule is absolutely loaded tonight with 11 games on tap, which gives us plenty of options to find some winning props. I've taken my time to carefully look over every matchup tonight, and I think I've found a few props that can win us some money. The research is done, the picks are in, and now it's time to watch some hockey!

Below, I highlight three player props that stood out to me for tonight's games. My record this season stands at (26 – 16) after going (1 – 2) last Thursday, hopefully, we can get back on track and sweep the board tonight!

Nico Hischier – Over 2.5 Shots (-120)

Nico Hischier has been producing more shots recently and I expect him to keep that going tonight when the New Jersey Devils visit the Washington Capitals. This season Hischier is averaging 3.23 shots per game, but over his last 10 games he is averaging 4.0 shots per game, a nice little jump from his season average. This uptick in shots has led to him recording three or more shots in seven of his last 10 games, and in four of his last five on the road. The Capitals are pretty banged up on the blue line, and they traded multiple defensemen at the deadline, which has led to them giving up more shots than usual recently. Over their last five games, they have been allowing 33.60 shots against per game, the eighth most in the NHL. Also, they have been giving up the 10th most shots to opposing centres over their last 10 games. Hischier has played the Capitals twice so far this season, recording four shots in each game, meaning he won this exact bet both times he played the Capitals this season. With Hischier shooting the puck more recently, and with the Capitals defensive struggles the last few weeks, I expect Hischier to get us the win tonight.

Tyson Barrie – Over 2.5 Shots (+105)

Tyson Barrie's season averages won't give you much confidence when making this bet, but his last 10 games have been a different story. So far this season Barrie is averaging 1.95 shots and 3.80 shot attempts per game, not very good at all. But, over his last 10 games, he is averaging 3.10 shots and 5.20 shot attempts per game, talk about flipping the script. Barrie has recorded three or more shots in eight of nine games, five of six on the road, and in two of his three games with Nashville, which isn't surprising considering his hot play. Another boost to the confidence is that Barrie gets to play the Arizona Coyotes tonight, one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. The Coyotes have been giving up 39.40 shots per game over their last 10, tied with the Anaheim Ducks for most shots against in the NHL over that span. Also, the Coyotes have been giving up the third most shots against to opposing defensemen, which bodes well for the streaking Barrie. Considering how many shots the Coyotes allow, and how Barrie has regained some of his offensive production recently, I expect the new Predators blueliner to continue his strong play tonight.

Eric Comrie – Over 28.5 Saves (-114)

The Buffalo Sabres have been giving up a ton of shots lately which should mean that Eric Comrie will be extra busy tonight when the Buffalo Sabres host the Dallas Stars. This season the Sabres have been allowing an average of 33.20 shots against per game, the eighth most in the NHL. However, over their last 10 games, the Sabres are averaging 37.50 shots against per game, the third most over that span. The Sabres have allowed at least 36 shots against in five straight games and in seven of their last eight, thanks to their terrible defensive play lately. The Stars on the other hand have been averaging 34.70 shots per game over their last 10, the seventh most in the league during that stretch. Also, the Stars have recorded at least 32 shots in six of their last seven games. As long as Comrie doesn't get pulled (knock on wood) he should expect to see upwards of 40 shots tonight.
