Things just keep going downhill for the last-place Blue Jackets. They managed to throw away the game last night against the Penguins, and in the process they lost Elvis Merzlikins to an injury. https://twitter.com/mark_scheig/status/1633306333205200903 That all being said, it is good to see the young players Kent Johnson, Liam Foudy, and Emil Bemstrom each with [...]
The Canucks, working towards more of a re-tool than a rebuild, have acquired Filip Hronek (who is currently injured) and a fourth-round pick from Detroit in exchange for first and second round picks. https://twitter.com/DetroitRedWings/status/1631048640671232001 What the Canucks Get: The Canucks get a top-four defenceman on a reasonable contract who can play at both ends of [...]
The Hurricanes bolstered the offensive skill on their blue line by adding Shayne Gostisbehere from the Coyotes for a 2026 third-round pick. What the Hurricanes Get: An offensive defenceman who has been revived this year by the Coyotes. Gostisbehere’s value jumps because he suddenly has a lot more offensive talent to distribute the puck [...]
The Colorado finally got into the deadline action, filling a middle-six centre void with the acquisition of Lars Eller. In return, they paid in their favourite currency – a 2nd round pick. Overall, an excellent return for the Capitals, regardless of the salary retention. What the Avalanche Get: A responsible third-line centre who can raise [...]
The Los Angeles Kings were the ones who finally paid the price for Vladislav Gavrikov, while trying to also hide Jonathan Quick as a cap dump in the deal as well in a swap for Joonas Korpisalo. The goalie swap and the upgrade on defence checks multiple boxes for the Kings, who come out with [...]
It feels like trade-deadline day was yesterday. Cliffy had his hands full with a ton of fantasy-relevant deals that he broke down all of the value changes for. Stick taps to him, and we’ll see how busy it is for me today. The general feeling is that there isn’t a whole lot left for deadline [...]
I put out my initial list of the 2023 free agency salary projections late last week, and while I publish it with a small ramble to lead into it, I wanted to talk about a few more players here. If you need any details on what I do or how the numbers come to be, [...]
This year’s projections come out a little later than last year, but that does mean this time around that it comes just in time for the trade deadline action, and that a few of the trades and extensions have already been sorted out. Before we dive into some of the notes, a quick foreword on [...]
Despite Valentine’s Day being over-corporatized, it is a great reminder to reach out to your loved ones, and remind them how much they mean to you. Shoutout to Roman Josi and K’Andre Miller! On another note, even though it’s a day notable for making pairings, there were no NHL trades yesterday. When they do come [...]
Post-All-Star break the rest of the season comes up on us quickly. This isn’t the mid-way point of the year, it’s the two-thirds mark. The trade deadline is less than a month away, and coming up in just another five weeks is the start of the H2H playoffs. Once we get into March, the potential [...]
