Two players with seemingly worn out welcomes in their respective franchises were traded for each other on Thursday afternoon. The long-rumoured Jordan Eberle trade occurred, with the Edmonton right winger being shipped to the New York Islanders in exchange for centre/winger Ryan Strome. The deal is a straight swap. Eberle has two years left on [...]
Late Tuesday night (or early Wednesday morning), some rumours started swirling around social media that Marian Hossa would be out for the 2017-18 season, and possibly had played his final NHL game. The genesis here was Elliotte Friedman’s ’30 Thoughts’ post. This was confirmed on Wednesday, as a statement released by the team and doctors [...]
On Sunday, all 30 NHL teams currently with rosters submitted their protected lists for the Expansion Draft. A few notes on this before delving into some important names: Vegas has reiterated a few times that just because a player is unprotected does not mean they will select said player. Teams could have a deal in [...]
The Achilles’ Heel of Calgary’s 2016-17 season was undoubtedly their goaltending. Chad Johnson did what he could early in the season, but his play trailed off, and Brian Elliott was infrequently able to capture the level of play he enjoyed in St. Louis. It seemed inevitable the Flames would try to remedy this. Their attempt [...]
Among the names rumoured to be on the block heading into the trade freeze before the expansion draft was Montreal Canadiens defenceman Nathan Beaulieu. He was indeed traded by the Habs to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a third-round pick in this year’s Entry Draft. Beaulieu is a restricted free agent this offseason. Fantasy [...]

What was expected to be a busy day trade-wise in the NHL ended up being a slow one, but we did get one deal. It was a relatively minor deal, but a trade nonetheless, as the Arizona Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers made an exchange: ARI sends 5th round pick and Brendan Warren (Univ of Michigan) [...]
Despite the apparent likelihood of Jonathan Drouin being traded this offseason, it’s still jarring when seeing a player that young, with that much upside, being shipped out of town. We know the reasons why, but it’s still a big gamble for the team to take, even with Mikhail Sergachev coming back in return. I wrote, [...]
Rumblings had been there for days (weeks?) that Tampa Bay’s Jonathan Drouin would be traded to Montreal, with the likely return including Alex Galchenyuk. Those wouldn’t be the only pieces of the deal, but they would be the focal points. Thursday afternoon, Drouin was indeed traded to the Habs, only it wasn’t for Galchenyuk, it [...]
Just over a month after the hiring of Jason Botterill to be Buffalo’s General Manager, former NHL defenceman Phil Housley was hired to be the Sabres’ next coach. He will replace Dan Bylsma, who was fired alongside former GM Tim Murray following the end of the season back in April. Housley was a first round [...]
