The New York Islanders were facing another cap crunch and it was just a matter of who would get moved. They ended up being able to shed the Josh Bailey contract, which is a good thing for them considering his falling out of the lineup. Bailey is on the move, and he may have a [...]
The first round of the 2023 NHL Draft was Wednesday night in Nashville. Dobber Prospects’s Peter Harling was down there and seemed a bigger fan of the Arizona picks than some others. Peter is a sharp guy that I like to read so there may be more to what the Coyotes were doing here. There [...]
The exodus from Calgary has begun as there have been a number of rumoured trade requests, cap crunches, or difficulties with contract extensions from the likes of Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm, and Tyler Toffoli, to name a few. There has been a lot of upheaval in Calgary that started a year ago with the huge [...]
One of the big storylines of the 2023 NHL offseason is the Winnipeg Jets and what they would do with their stars. It seems as if they are ready to unload a bevy of players, a few of them being core pieces for the last few or even several years, to try and turn the [...]
The Montreal Canadiens have been tied to trade talks with Pierre-Luc Dubois for some time now, but the latest rumours are pointing to a trade between Winninpeg and Los Angeles sooner rather than later. It appears that this made the Canadiens pivot and look for help elsewhere. Perhaps they took inspiration from the re-emergence of [...]
With new management in Philadelphia and coach John Tortorella establishing his favourites, the clock was ticking on Kevin Hayes’s tenure as a Flyer. The catch with Hayes was his contract, which has three years left, carries an average annual value over $7.1M, and a partial no-trade clause to boot. Philadelphia decided to retain half the [...]
The trades that a lot of us were anticipating have been slow to materialize, though we did get a couple important moves on the weekend. Ryan Johansen is now in Colorado, and that was covered by Ian, while Sean Durzi is now in Arizona, a trade that Ian also wrote about. Picking up Johansen at [...]
The NHL Draft is less than a week away and free agency starts a few days after that. Before we get too far ahead, I want to talk about the Draft. As I often say, and repeat at this time of year, I am not a scout. I don’t evaluate prospects in any official capacity, [...]
The Montreal Canadiens re-signed forward Sean Monahan to a one-year deal a couple days ago. Though he played just 25 games with the Habs, he actually managed a four-year high in points per minute aat 5-on-5. He had also been earning some top PP time, so maybe there’s fantasy value to be had as a [...]
Hey, everyone. Today is normally Dobber's day for Ramblings but he spent some much-deserved time on Father's Day with his family and I said I would step in for the day. He'll be back in these pages tomorrow but you're stuck with me for today. * Vegas's Stanley Cup parade was on Saturday night, and [...]
