There were no games with American Thanksgiving yesterday. That gives me time to talk about some things I haven’t had the time for, so let’s start with Arthur Kaliyev. This is a guy with an interesting prospect history, a unique set of skills – shouts to Liam Neeson – and obvious offensive upside. There is [...]
It is just a fact of the NHL in 2021, 2022, and probably beyond that COVID will keep playing a part in the league. We have already seen the Ottawa Senators get shutdown this year, with the San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, and others endure significant breakouts. Even with vaccinations, constant close contact will [...]
American Thanksgiving is coming up in just a couple days and the day before Thanksgiving is absolutely loaded with games. That means I probably won’t have much to talk about for Thursday’s Ramblings, as I will be busy relaying the info from the games. To that end, I want to take today and talk about [...]
The New York Islanders have been a fascinating team to start the season. They came into the campaign as Cup contenders, but are 5-6-2 following their monster road trip to begin the season. Remember that this team still has not played a game at home yet, with their first coming Saturday against Calgary. They only [...]
We had the Hall of Fame inductions on Monday night, which means a light NHL slate. With congratulations to all the other inductees, it’s Jarome Iginla whom I want to talk about. It does suck to see him retire without a Stanley Cup, but I often wonder about his impact on hockey in general. I [...]
The hits just keep coming for Ottawa as the team added Alex Formenton, Nikita Zaitsev, and Matt Murray to the COVID list. That now gives them nine players and a coach on that list for the time being, which began Thursday night against Los Angeles. The game went on as scheduled, despite the talk that [...]
It has been a remarkable start to the season for Anaheim’s Troy Terry, perhaps one of their forgotten prospects. While not a true prospect anymore, really, he has fewer than two seasons of games played and just turned 24 in September. If he could find his trajectory as a prospect again, there could be something [...]
We are about a month into the NHL season and it does seem like the games are flying by, right? It doesn’t feel like a month has passed since the season opener, but here we are. While it’s still too early to make some determinations, there are definitely some players and situations I’ve moved on [...]
The trade that the hockey world has been waiting for for what seems like a year now has finally happened, as Jack Eichel was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in the wee hours of Thursday morning. While there had been rumours – very recent rumours – of Eichel going to Calgary, the Golden Knights [...]
Not the news that Penguins fans or fantasy hockey owners wanted to hear: Sidney Crosby has COVID. Now, he should be fine, assuming he’s vaccinated (which he is), along with teammate Brian Dumoulin, who also tested positive. We have seen some players develop long-term issues from this, namely Marco Rossi and Brandon Sutter. Both those [...]
