Welcome to part two of a three part look at the remaining schedules and a subsequent fantasy breakdown of the Eastern Conference teams. While NHL teams have to abide by a trade freeze during the Olympic Games, us fantasy owners certainly don’t have to.

Oh boy are we ever in for a treat, best on best hockey is, well, the best, and doesn’t happen as often as we all would like. The downside to all the great hockey we are seeing is no NHL hockey. And while NHL teams have to abide by a trade freeze during the Olympic Games, you certainly don’t have to.
All NHL teams have between 19 and 22 games remaining in the regular season. But not all games are created equal. For the shrewd fantasy owner, there is opportunity here.
Dobber 3-Tiered Pool Update – End January
Experts
Once again The Silver Hammers find themselves at the summit of the Dobber Experts League. This month they managed to extend their lead to 13 points with the best month of any team (13 points). Lanky522 recorded the next best month, gaining seven points in January. Youth Injection fell from fourth to eighth while losing 10.5 points. Both Angus Unleashed and Doulos-The Hockey Robot dropped 8.5 points apiece this month. Slow and steady – Legion of Dobber moves up to fourth despite struggles in the goals and shots department.
In my youth, this phrase was heard in the neighbourhood more than a few times. It was used during games of Hide and Seek to let everyone know that it was safe to come out from their hiding spots. Let’s hope that the newest Ranger, Olli Jokinen hears the call and emerges from wherever his 30-goal talent and passion have been hiding for the last few seasons. For those of you who own O.J. in your pools, you have to be optimistic that he finds his return to the Eastern Conference welcoming! He hasn’t been the same since leaving the Panthers in 2008.
Earlier this season, I came down pretty hard on the Ottawa Senators franchise, so much so that I was accused of being a Toronto Maple Leaf fan! While I definitely do not bleed blue and white, one has to be impressed by the Senators confidence level and work ethic during their current seven game winning streak. To me, that is directly attributable to the coaching staff led by Cory Clouston.
The Buffalo Sabres are 8-1-2 in their last eleven games and sit only two points back of the Eastern Conference leading Washington Capitals. The NHL’s most tenured Head Coach, Lindy Ruff has no true superstar to rely on, but he seems to be able to squeeze the most out of his charges year in and year out. This season, Buffalo’s best forward so far has been Tim Connolly and the top defenseman has been the rookie Tyler Myers.
Superstar-in-waiting John Tavares is mired in a horrendous slump. After recording 19 points in his first 21 games, the well has run dry and he recorded only ten points over the next 26 contests.
Don’t look now, but even with all their injury woes, the Bruins are heating up with six wins against only two losses in their last eight games.
