Fantasy Take – Latest NHL Moves

In one of the truly shocking signings of the day – which is saying a lot – Chandler Stephenson’s time with Vegas came to an end as he signed a monster contract with another Western Conference team. Not long after signing Brandon Montour to a seven-year deal, the Seattle Kraken did the exact same thing [...]

After leaving Calgary and betting on himself in Montreal, Sean Monahan posted a 26-goal, 59-point season in 2023-24, plus a brief playoff run with Winnipeg. As a result of reclaiming his value, Monahan has found a home in the Eastern Conference with the Columbus Blue Jackets: https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1807812727290712159 Monahan goes to a team that looks to [...]

The Boston Bruins have signed forward Elias Lindholm to a seven-year contract with an average annual value of $7.75 million. The Bruins have also signed defenseman Nikita Zadorov to a six-year contract with a $5 million AAV. The Bruins receive: Lindholm, an effective two-way center who can check many boxes from a real-life perspective. He [...]

The Washington Capitals continue their surprise transformation into a contending team, bolstering their blueline by trading for Jakob Chychrun and signing Matt Roy. Their efforts seemed questionable when they made their first move, acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois. It still seemed like they were throwing new paint on a rundown house when they traded for Andrew Mangiapane [...]

Starting in February of 2020, over a four-year span, winger Tyler Toffoli wound up with six different teams: Los Angeles, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, New Jersey, and Winnipeg. It is safe to say he was probably tired of getting bounced around so much, so he found a home with some term in San Jose: https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1807804162815467802 Toffoli [...]

After being bought out by Vancouver, there was a lot of uncertainty around Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s future. Safe to say that after a 32-point regular season with the Florida Panthers that included heavy minutes early on because of the injuries to Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour, capped with a Stanley Cup win, his value has been [...]

The Carolina Hurricanes had a number of unrestricted free agents all coming up for the 2024 offseason and they couldn’t bring them all back. They needed to make a decision on blue liner Brett Pesce, and it seems the decision was to let him walk as Chris Johnston reported that Pesce is on his way [...]

The Seattle Kraken have signed free agent defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven-year contract with an average annual value of $7.14 million. The Kraken receive: Montour, who is fresh off a Stanley Cup championship with Florida with a team parade and celebration just one day earlier. Montour was slowed by injuries and back to a [...]

Chicago bolstered their winger depth on Monday, adding Teuvo Teravainen and Tyler Bertuzzi to the fold. https://twitter.com/TheFourthPeriod/status/1807738802699485421 https://twitter.com/frank_seravalli/status/1807807281876058533 These deals represent sizeable commitments for Chicago as Bertuzzi is on contract for four seasons and Teravainen for three. That’s significant because as I write this, none of the team’s other forwards have more than two years [...]
