Frozen Tools Forensics

It is time for what has become an annual tradition over here in Frozen Tools. We are using our regular season stats to see if we can predict some unlikely playoff heroes. This all started back when I wrote the Wild West column. I saw a column from Rick Roos on playoff heroes. He looked [...]

Depending on your fortunes and your schedule you might be eliminated from contention, finishing your finals week, or maybe pushing through to the end of the season. This is always a tricky time to produce content as everyone is in such a different place. My goal this week is to highlight a few roster changes [...]

Last week we reviewed the hottest even strength lines to see if there were any players in great situations to help out in those do or die matchups that are the fantasy playoffs. This week we are going to do much the same process, but be looking through the top power-play lines for producing power-plays [...]

At this point we are in playoff season. Many leagues are deep into their first round already. A good add can make or break your season and there is a lot less leash for players who we would historically keep long term. Player schedules, or bumps in deployment all have bigger impacts when it’s win [...]

The name of the game this week has been trade deadline talk. Monday’s deadline created an interesting weekend of news, takes, and of course one voided trade. We won’t really be touching specifically on the deadline as the moves and implications have been very well covered on the site. Start here for a rundown on [...]

When considering fantasy, I have never put much weight into home ice advantage. Not because I believe it doesn’t exist, it clearly does, home teams have a better winning percentage on average. There are literal rules embedded in the game that support the home team (on line changes, faceoffs), plus all of the unquantified factors [...]

Today we look to finish off the “Where Are They Now” mini-series. Last week we checked in on defense, so this week, in our final installment, we are going to turn our attention to goalies. Frozen Tool Forensics: Where Are They Now? Goalie Edition. This is also sort of the third installment of a review [...]

Today we look to continue the “Where Are They Now” mini-series. Last week we checked in on forwards, so this week we are going to turn our attention to defensemen. We had a significant number of high scoring D early on and I was particularly interested if those players had managed to keep up the [...]

This week we are going to start a mini-series looking back at some early season returns and where those players are now. It’s the “Where Are They Now” mini-series. Kind of like checking up on all of your high school classmates (you know to make sure they aren’t doing better than you), just different. Originally [...]
