fantasy hockey

As you may have read in the Ramblings, we have a team in our Pro Tier (in the DobberHockey Invitational) that is in dead last. As can sometimes happen when love fantasy hockey so much that you get into far too many leagues, life catches up with you and some of your fantasy squads suffer as a result. This is one of those situations. I have nine volunteers to take the reins of this squad and try and turn it around. If the person who takes the team over, gets it into the Top 5, that person will immediately become a part of DobberHockey lore. A legend, if you will. If the person can somehow win the league - then to me that's instant DobberHockey Hall-of-Fame Induction. No waiting period, no voting, no hurdles - just straight into the HoF for the pure awesomeness of it.

Matt Stajan will be back in the lineup to face his former team the Leafs - look for him to step it up.   Pekka Rinne is "really close" to returning, according to the Tennessean. He had a solid practice today and I'm thinking the weekend is a possibility.   Sergei Kostitsyn was back [...]

A few injuries from last night:   Paul Stastny was drilled from behind by Bryan Bickell - it doesn't sound serious, though (stiff back/neck).   Erik Johnson left the Blues game with a leg injury. It looked a bit more serious and he didn't return.   Lecavalier returned last night, to the surprise of [...]

Heading into play last night, the Devils were only three points up on the cellar dwelling New York Islanders. If that isn't bad enough, the Isles have played one less game than New Jersey.

Goldie Says: I wrote a doozy on Steve Mason's struggles and how he can improve. Time to get him a sports psychologist coach. My eyes are also locked onto Mike Smith - his shootout win over ATL plus Nabby rumors could push him to perform very well over the next week.    Jeremy Morin was sent back down by Chicago, but [...]

A tough decision can be made easier with these charts showing you the best five and worst five schedules for upcoming seven-day periods. Some of you used them last year but for the benefit of new readers here is a refresher. The number next to the team indicates the 'multiplier' to use on a player's point-per-game pace to give you an idea how many points to expect for that week.

Santa Hockey

Season’s Greetings everyone!!

Last week was a marginal improvement over my debut, as I managed to split my picks down the middle. This week I’m looking to one-up that & continue my upward trajectory; hopefully surpassing the  50/50 barrier this time around. This will be the last time you hear from me until New Year’s Weekend, so here’s to wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and an opportunity to spend some time at home with your loved one, hopefully fitting in a little extra hockey while you’re at it! Can’t go wrong with that!

Now let’s get to it...

A Look Back, Part II

It’s been humbling looking back at some of the advice I’ve given. While some of it has been good – especially in Part I last week – this week I’m noticing more misses.

Looking back and re-assessing your judgment of players is a great exercise because it helps you adjust your evaluation skills. You see signs that you missed that would have told you a player was better than you thought, and you see which traits attracted you to a player like a moth to the light.

Here’s a look back (chronologically) at some more players I’ve written about in the last year, and how good my assessment was.

Sergei Kostitsyn has an eight game point streak going for the Preds.   Marty Erat is flying right now for the Preds – he looks to have shaken the rust off from some early season injury troubles. He’s got 10 points in his past eight games.   Shea Weber has points in four consecutive [...]
