Filatov has been promised a top six spot? I think/hope something was lost in translation...   The big news in the hockey world yesterday was Viktor Tihkonov agreeing to a one-year, two-way contract with the Coyotes. Needless to say this is the dog days of summer. Today's ramblings will cover some odds and ends [...]

Clear Separation – Part V

Going stride for stride with my Western Conference counterpart, I am providing an Eastern Conference version of Ryan Ma’s Earmarked for Success. As Ryan has cautioned, please do not fret over the line combinations. We are merely separating the top-six players from the bottom-six on each team, which can be applied to potential fantasy success for the upcoming season. Top-six players obviously get the lion’s share of ice time, both at even strength and on the power play.

My latest piece on Keith Ballard - let me know what you think.   I chatted with Thomas from the Canucks Army on Wednesday evening. Our conversation can be found here (warning: lots of Canuck talk – Lack, Hodgson, Kesler, Ballard, potential trade targets, and more).   Some bounce back players for next year [...]

Seth Jones

The Dean’s List series promises that it will not make a habit of jumping this far ahead in the future of hockey to profile a budding star but this 2013 NHL prospect has been making too much noise to simply ignore.  How often do you find an emerging hockey star in the land of Texas?  Seth Jones is proving that hockey has no geographic limits.  The six-foot-four-inch 16-year-old hails from Dallas, Texas and is the son of former NBA basketball forward Popeye Jones which explains the youngster’s excellent athleticism. Jones is not eligible for the NHL Entry Draft until 2013 but fantasy owners will soon start realizing that he is quickly developing into a special prospect.

The 2012 DobberHockey Fantasy Guide is out and updated often. Pick up a copy today!   Every goal scored by Mason Raymond last season – I was surprised at how many he scored without Ryan Kesler.   A good read on Stefan Elliott – even if he has a strong camp, he’ll need some [...]

Aging Prospects

Okay, so these guys aren't exactly old, but they have to be at least 22 by the start of the 2011-12 season to be included. In most cases these players have proven themselves in the AHL and are due for a serious look at some NHL ice time. There are some hidden gems in this list and in some cases all these defencemen need is a break. Most of them are stuck in organizations with a lot of blue line depth. Because of their age, there is more pressure for the organization to play them sooner rather than later and that's good if you need to shore up your blue line next year in a keeper league. These are good defensive prospects that are very close.

Greetings, from London, Ontario!   Definitely need to backtrack on my Florida statement, see comments below. Just needed time to digest it and really think about it. As I said, it was just off the top of my head. Kind of shocked, knee-jerk reaction. But they really have come along.   Those of you trying [...]
